4gr is a good idea and why wouldn't a 3sge bolt up? its VERY similar to a 3sgte

the 4grfse would be a decent engine for this and it does mate to the AWD e154F, problem would be cost and wiring. is a relatively new engine which will make it hard to find and expensive, and since noone that I know has installed this engine on a Celica, it'ld be a new path that will come with its set of challenges, as much as I'd love to see this engine installed, I think beause of time limitations and the fact that once he advances on the racing program he'll upgrade the engine anyways, I think a cheaper / easier to install engine is better suit for his application.
so that send us back to 3sge / 3sge BEAMS which will require minimun wiring work to get going, mounts match and at most they'll require some grinding to the block that he has done before and won't be much of a road block. -------------------- |

3s-ge and gte are very similarly laid out motors, while the internals differ vastly, alot of the ancillaries almost identical if not interchangeable.

I dont understand, You don't want to get a beams because of the rarity of parts? But a 3sge is ok? Are non beams parts that much easier to find? Well the fact that the non-beams is 1k less in price might have something to do with it. As far as grinding the block... I thought the 3sge and GTE had the same exact block? -------------------- -93 Rx7, Turbo 6.1L v8, 725rwhp/760rwtq

you may be right, I coudln't confirm that with part numbers, but I've read of people using 3sge ( beams and regular ) cylinder block as a base for the 3sgte builds so you can very well be right about it and save yourself the grinding step.

hmm,3sgte stronger pistons, rods, crank, oil squirters, metal headgasket, lower compression (bigger) head chambers, different cam profiles (peak power at earlier).

Well why not just build a 5sgte. Then save the turbo for later. So essentially a 5sge.

Well why not just build a 5sgte. Then save the turbo for later. So essentially a 5sge. Building an engine at this point will take more time and be more costly. I'm looking for something fairly easy... i've been neglecting my house, girlfriend, dog, etc. hahaha over the last two months trying to get the car done. So now i need some time for other things. -------------------- -93 Rx7, Turbo 6.1L v8, 725rwhp/760rwtq

Anyone have any links for the 3sge wiring swap? I'm really not worried, it can't be any worse than the rx7 was, but I'd like to know generally what is required. I searched for 3sge, but haven't found much in terms of wiring.

People these days usually swap to 3sgte or a beams there are a few on here which have swapped/going to. I think the wiring would be easier than the beams/ 3sgte
As for parts they should be cheaper, still might be a bit of a hassle with availability due to the 3sge not for sale in the usa I've also pm'd you with some 3sge wiring diagrams -------------------- |

I bought the 3sge non beams. Should have it next week. Like I said i'm trying to start slow; even the top $200k+ cars are only have 285 hp/350 tq, different than a lot of other racing. Don't need that much HP to get yourself into trouble.
Need to change brakes/rotors/front axles on my audi to get it to pass inspection. Have to work saturday, off sun/mon. So sunday i'll be working on the audi. Monday I'm going to pull this engine, hopefully have soom good carnage pics. -------------------- -93 Rx7, Turbo 6.1L v8, 725rwhp/760rwtq

Assholes that inspected my audi torqued the wheel bolts to over 200 ftlbs. Torque spec is 90. Broke a bolt head off; now cant remove the wheels.
I did manage to get the celica around the back of my house and into the workshop. Barely made it as there's a hill to get in. I had to get a running start. Floored at in neutral it wouldnt rev higher than 3k rpms. Sounds like a healthy engine to me! So I tore the engine down yesterday. Rod bearings in cylinders 2 and 3 were gone completely. Not even spun, just gone. Crank and rods are scored pretty good.
Some of these are a bit old. Exhaust I made. 1/4 inch aluminum skid plate. Already has some big dents in it. 3sge Hard to tell but the crank and pistons are really scored... -------------------- -93 Rx7, Turbo 6.1L v8, 725rwhp/760rwtq
