Long time reader, first time poster.

The situation:
Got a 1995 GT-S(Canada) with a 5S-FE engine in it and was looking to swap it out for a 3S-GTE(ST205)

The question:
What would need to be changed/added/purchased in order to do this smoothly? I've read the sticky on the feasible swaps, and I took note to the fact that it is a drop in swap, however, in discussing with a friend of mine, he told me that because it's a JDM motor going into a North American car, the steering may need to be modified/changed. Is this true?

As far as I know steering doesn't need to be changed, and if you buy a front clip you will have everything you will need to swap over.

you dont have to change a thing related to the steering.

It's pretty straight forward to be honest. the 5S and 3S are both S-series motors, therefor, are extremely easy to swap out for one another. You can use your existing motor mounts, transmission, shift linkage, axles, A/C compressor, A/C lines, P/S lines. You'll need your harness converted to work in the USDM Chassis, (PM me for details on that) but aside from that, if you know what a wrench is, this is a very feasible swap for you.



and smack your friend for the "steering changes" comment.

nothin needs to be change it is a drop in swap the only thing you have to worry about is the wireharness

I'm almost I a similar situation, I'm in a Position with the swap. What about things like the radiator, or brake systems and things like that? And does a mr2 wire harness work on the celica???

You guys need to read this:
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=28825

As for the mr2 engine/harness... you are going to make your swap harder by going with these. The wiring harness will be completely different and need to be sent out to someone to be rewired. Also there are alot of small differences in the placement of things like the alternator that will make your swap difficult.

Your best bet for success is to start out with a GT car, and use an st205 3sgte. This will be the easiest swap, with the least wiring and headaches.
