Hi all.

Just wanted to mention my new GT4 arrived from Auckland yesterday (a day earlier than I'd arranged for). I'm relieved to say it really is a mint example, and apart from getting dirty seems to have survived its trip without damage. The colour (gun metal) is even better in real life that it is in the photos. Seems to have almost blue/silver flecks that give it a lovely shine. I've checked the bodywork very carefully and it has the two very minor little "push pin" type dents on the left hand side (one at front and one at the back) so small you could not notice unless you were really trying to find them.

It also came with a lot of parts, most of which I'm not exactly sure what they are. I may take photos of the parts and post them here so you guys can id them for me :-)

The only negative about the car (and it's not a biggie) is the plastic trim in the boot area has seen better days with a large amount of scratching and scuffs. I'm considering swapping it with the trim from my 94 which is in much better condition, or perhaps see if I can source it from somewhere else. Since it's the same as an ST202 it should not be hard to find.

The head unit seems very high end (Soundstream VIR-8004) but it appears to be a non standard size (smaller than double din but bigger than single) so there is a gap exposing the cables behind -any suggestions? I also notice there is an ipod cable supplied but oddly it has not been installed which is annoying as I guess I'll have to remove the head unit in order to fit it.

Can't drive it yet (apart from into the garage) as I'm just waiting for confirmation of my insurance to come through. When it does I'll take it for a little run and snap some photos.

the new GT-Four looks stunning mate. You should be able to find something on TM or try asking a local wreaking yard for those interior bits.

the headunit could be for euro cars?

Looks awesome, very nice gtfour you picked up there. looks like a great example. man that leather interior looks NICE, wish my one had it lol

As far as the boot plastic goes, if you want to replace it you will need one from another st205 as the gtfour boot is shallower than a normal st202 (to accomodate for the rear diff underneath)

Always nice when something your expecting arrives a day early eh

Ahh unfortunately ST205 boot plastics differ to ST202 (deeper boot, taller plastics)

swap over what you can, cant wait to see it with projectors installed

I'm sooo happy with this car, drives really nice too -very tight, no annoying squeeks or rattles. Gearbox seems in good order; so does the clutch. Handbrake is nice and smooth, just so glad this worked out, was pretty nerve wracking buying this car without seeing it first, but the gamble paid off. Glad I asked about the rear plastic trim, would have sucked getting an ST202 trim and then finding it didn't fit lol. Doesn't really worry me but it just doesn't go with the rest of the car, which so immaculate.

Will take pics of all the parts over the next few days and then post them up.

ps. previous owner said he will pass my contact details onto the original NZ owner who did all the work on this car, would be good to talk to him and learn more about it's history.

Yeah, those seats are pure eye candy (the back seats have been done in matching leather as well). I'll try to say this as delicately as possible, those seats are not designed for people with a "wide base". Fortunately, I'm not one of those people but you actually feel like the seat is "holding you" in place, including your thighs -there's very little lateral movement allowed.

Hey Dyran, just wondering, how have you been coping with all the aftershocks going on down in ChCh at the moment? I guess you even have to be a bit careful where you choose to drive as it looks like some roads have been severely messed up?

So thought I'd just put it out there that I've decided to keep my 94 GT4 (here's a pic of the old girl I took yesterday)



The reasons are
1) I still enjoy driving it
2) It is still running well
3) I've sunk a lot of money into it
4) I have a big pile of spare parts so having two GT4's increases my odds of one actually taking advantage of them
5) For such an old car, it's in remarkable condition and I get a lot of nice comments on it

I don't really like that it has to live outside now but I'll continue to wash it regularly and keep it well seviced.

The only real negatives is that it's not the most econcomical car to run nor is it the greatest car to drive in traffic.

Still -2 GT4's, living the dream really

Lol, I'd swap all the immaculate parts into the red one, it has a sunroof, a good spoiler, and a TRD bodykit

Not diggin the wheels on either of them tho..

I really like that red one, but I like the colour of your new one!!!

lol based on that logic it would make more sense to swap the bodykit and spoiler over to the 97 -I don't need a sunroof thats what the MX5 is for

Now that was uncalled for -and as for the wife I broke up with my last partner a couple of years ago, that's why I can buy all these toys

If it helps at all, it's a factory turbo charged model -alot more pep than your regular 5

Still, I'll admit I got called a poofter by a guy driving a beaten up corola a few weeks back. Thing is, MX5's are actually awesome cars to drive, the only people that bag them are people who have never driven one.

I like the look of the red one far more than the other one. Im usually not a fan of those kinds of wheels butt hey really suit imo

Yeah, to be honest I'm really surprised that a number of people on this forum have said they kind of suck but as soon as I saw these wheels fitted I felt they matched the car really well.

Ah well, it's all just personal taste -I like both cars. I guess at some stage I may replace the wheels on my new car with something else, mainly just because I can

I found it really difficult to track down wheels for my gt4 (had factory tri-spokes on when i bought it) because those massive callipers are always in the way lol, even the wheels i got with slightly bulged spokes and an offset of 35 needed a 5mm spacer to get past them lol. I remember going into Mag and Turbo to have a look, and when i mentioned my car was a gt-four the selection of wheels they offered me dropped to only about 4 or 5 different ones, none of which i particularly liked, so I decided to buy in my Momos from overseas lol.
I reckon the wheels on your 97 would look awesome on your red 94, always reckon bronze/gold wheels like mint on red cars.

Oh and Quidam, as far as those damn aftershocks, things are pretty bad in the city a the moment, luckily I live about 20 mins north of Chch so the damage out here isn't nearly as bad. Driving through town in a low sports car with stiff suspension is awful now though, there are pretty much no smooth roads any more. And once they do spend the time to fix up a road, we get another large quake and its destroyed again, so they've sorta given up fixing a lot of areas for the time being.
