Well, I'm now at 165k miles and I think its about time I replace my original timing belt. So I figured i'm going to change my Power Steering, Alternator, and AC belt as well.
Using Azian's guide here http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=57712 What else should I change? Do I need the two tensioners? Should I change the water pump since I'll already be down that far? Do I need to change anything else while I'm in there? So all I need is 1 T belt, 1 PS/alt belt, 1 AC belt, and if I do the water pump, then 1 water pump, 1 thermostat, and 1 thermostat gasket as well? Again, there's nothing wrong with the car, nothing is acting up or leaking or anything like that, but I just decided that my game of chicken with the timing belt is just about over and I'd rather not get stuck on the side of the road. -------------------- '99 Celica GT - Sold

Yes doing the water pump is a great idea! You've got everything off of that side of the engine - you might as well!

Right, thats what I thought too. But i didn't know if a water pump would show any signs of wear by making a noise or rattle or something.
Plus, I didn't know if the tensioners should be replaced too. Looking on 1sttoyotaparts, they're freakin expensive. -------------------- '99 Celica GT - Sold

The oil seals for all the pulleys back there commonly go bad and leak, for the few extra bucks I'd change them out and save a future headache.

Do you mean camshaft seals? I know the oil pump is down there, but i don't know if he has anything that protrudes out into the timing belt area that would need changed. -------------------- '99 Celica GT - Sold

There is a seal behind the boil pump gear. Change that! And save your money on the alternator. If you don't need it don't change it. Its really to change out in the car so do it when u need to. I suggest pulling the engine to do all this. It will be worth it!

radiator hoses, thermostat, cam seal, crank seal, tensioner, idler, tensioner pulley, and check the accessory belt pulleys for play or noise. I think my radiator hoses are still good, thermostat is a given with the water pump. As far as camshaft and crankshaft seals, do you need to remove the cams and crank for them?and are the tensioner pulleys needed? they're $120 for the two, and they weren't changed in the how to. just didn't know if they're subject to going out. If I was going to go that far, it'd put something more fun in instead. -------------------- '99 Celica GT - Sold

I think you need to remove the pulleys for the cam and crank seals, it can all be done without moving the engine. and the oil pump does have a seal.... cause mine was leaking and the dealer changed mine for me...
