do you have the a/c idle up valve hooked up and working properly? that allows the idle to raise ~ 150 or so RPM to compensate for the extra load on the engine caused by the a/c compressor at idle.

ya i bought a new one. and i'm believing i got a boost leak. or my waist gate isn't working properly. when i'm in first and go to about 5 pounds it's all fine hit second and give it half throttle. and it jumps to fifteen pounds but i'm not going anywhere. lol. so i'm guessing it's a boost leak. or something is going on lol. any ideas?
And also have adjusted idle to just below 1k rpms. But it still jumps down to 400 when cold. When it's warmed up it'll stay one below 1k but bounces down and back up. So my guess is iac or tps is off or not working properly.. Hopefully figure out more.. Been praying it's not my waist gate sticking.. Well been driving it a little more today. and last night. Been staying at low boost cause once i hit around 9lbs you hear a woosh woosh woosh sound. it'll hit 15lbs making that noise. and in like 2nd and 3rd doing that it just feels like it's falling on its face. and everyonce in a while it'll jerk like it kicked in and then comes right back out.. So confused lol.. Friend told me he thought maybe it makes that sound cause its a internal waist gate and i'm running open down pipe.. Anybody have this problem? let me know thanks

How exactly are you adjusting idle?

you should never have to mess with the idle like that.

Well while we were trying to diagnose the problems before we found out i had wrong map sensor. we wanted to check timing and everything so needed to get the car to idle. When i got map sensor it was idling at 2k so we had to adjust it again. The idle isn't really my biggest concern as i can still drive the car.. My biggest concern is the boost problem after 8lbs. where i hear the wooshing noise and loss of power.. bov still goes off after. and i've tightened all of my couplers. just don't know what to try next to get rid of it.. lol

Cause if in fact you are spiking boost, then it could be a leak. Good luck with it. -Ryan |

well the boost isn't spiking. when wot it stops at fifteen lbs. it's just when it passes 9 and goes to fifteen and it starts wooshing and when i let off the bov still goes off. i've checked all vacuum lines and haven't figured it out yet. lol. still fun to drive.

I'm wondering if the noise you are hearing is the normal noise the turbo would make when sucking air at high speed. especially when not using the stock airbox.

Yea i was wondering that too.. But i can feel loss of power every once in a while when it does this. sadly to say it really sounds like this..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCj6Spwl1CU 50 seconds in. I'm really really hoping that its not compressor surge tho.. -------------------- |

If your running the stock turbo, its not surge. What are you using for a bov?
What kinda gas you running? -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

I am using a greddy type rz and i'm running 91 premium. I figured it couldn't be with running stock turbo.. but it does sound like that after 8 or 9 lbs. but even in boost just doesn't feel right. I keep thinking maybe boost leak. but i've tightened every coupler. but if it is wouldn't know where lol.

boost can leak from a few small hoses as well, not just couplers, I had a boost leak that was causing boost spikes right at the actuator, basically the hose cracked and when not under pressure it would look fine, but under pressure it would leak. since you dont have the water to air, the easiest way for you to find a boost leak is making a boost leak tester
Click here ! I made mine for less than 12 dollars and even though I have a water to air with less piping, it made finding my leak very easy. -------------------- |

Well i guess i'll have to try that.. and i'll have to check my hoses by the actuator. and all my small vacuum lines. hopefully figure something out lol..
I'm really hoping that, that's all my problem is, is a boost leak somewhere.. This post has been edited by celiracer: Aug 2, 2011 - 12:20 PM -------------------- |

so hooked up a leak tester. found couple spots that were leaking.. also while it was hooked up air was coming out of the filter that i put on the iac. could that be the flutter i'm getting at hi boost? after tightening the couplers i noticed a way better difference. but still seeming a lil sluggish. lol.

I'm really really hoping that its not compressor surge tho.. hey i know what it is your bov is letting off to early... are cars dont really like those type of bov's. change to tial type also make sure your boost itsn't to high if it is your car will act like it doesn't want to go when u get to 4th gear and maybe 3rd at highway speeds. so turn your boost down and get a new bov and see if that doesn't help you............................... are u running fmic set up or water to air.............. or................... air to air................... and it is compressor surge because that bov isn't doing what it should be my car did the same thing ontill i changed the bov. its not a big problem just a easy fix and u will be good This post has been edited by brenton1919: Aug 4, 2011 - 7:33 AM |

When your engine is off, IAC is wide open. When you pressurized your system, air can escape from the IAC. During a boost-leak test, I usually block off the IAC port.
If you have a good idle and you know the IAC valve is working correctly, it shouldn't have an impact during boost as the IAC should be closed when TP isn't fully closed (TP is at 0%). For future diagnosis, I would try to run off the wastegate spring only. Disable the TVSV and see if it's holding boost and if the whoosing sound is still there. Good luck! Sam |

so your saying that my greddy bov isn't good enough for boost on our engine? we've adjusted it to hard but not all the way. and seemed to not do much. but my boost stays around fifteen.. but maybe that.s my problem is the bov. dam don't really wanna have to spend that much on another blow off valve lol.

and my bov still goes off when i let off gas. but hopefully i can find one to borrow. or maybe try going harder on my settings for it' cause don't wanna spend that much and not fix the problem lol. i'm running front mount ic. last night took it out. and it ran fine for a while then started doing it towards the end. I really hope i can fix it.. cause theres so much power that i'm missing out on lol.
