How To Upgrade Your Stock 8" Woofers
-----------------------------------------------

The woofers are JL Audio 8W1V2-4 but any 8" (or 20cm) woofer will do.

Step 1: Once you've removed the woofers from the doors, you'll need to remove the 4 screws under the foam surround and pry off the old woofer.

Step 2: Then you'll need to cut the sides of the hole on the speaker adapter (shown above) to match the diameter of the magnet going on.

Note: You'll also need to cut about the same amount of metal on the doors for the woofer magnets to fit.

Step 3: Then you'll need to cut the 3 braces on each side depending on how deep the new woofers go.

Step 4: Then you tap new holes along the rim of the new woofers to match the existing anchors, and use the existing screws to mount the woofers.

Step 5: Just splice the old connector with the new speaker wire to connect to the new sub.

For best sound quality, do not use these with the factory stereo system.

Great write up, but isn't that a sub woofer and not a mid-bass woofer?

Yes, they are. But he/she has the 8 speaker system in his/her Celica, so it makes it a lot easier for him to run pure bass in those 8" slots. The additional small 3 inch (I think they're 3 inch) speaker on top allows him/her to run bass on the lower 8" slot while running mids on the upper 3" speaker slot. All this info is purely based on how I think everything would be run, or how I would run my system if I had the 8 speaker system. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. On another not, those 8" JL subs hit pretty nice. I had a pair of those myself about a two years ago. They make a VERY big difference for the size & power that they are rated.

-Hope I helped, Ryan

yeah they're subwoofers. i think the stock woofer amplifier under the driver seat receives raw (unfiltered) audio signal from the amplifier in the center dash panel. so i plan to replace the amp under the chair with another 2-channel amplifier. looking at the wiring diagram, it seems pretty straight forward and it has the + & - audio signal for each woofer, battery, switch power (ATT), ground, and mute. But i'm not sure if there's sufficient power coming in on the wire harness for the amplifier so just to be safe i plan to run a separate power & ground cable from the battery. i want to run a 400W amp that can still fit under the driver chair.

On my alltrac with the system 10 I got the Kicker SMB8 Mid bass driver/woofer. I know that they don't make these anymore but isn't there another 8" mid bass driver/woofer that will fit the 94-99 Celica. I ask because I'm looking at changing my system too, but I want to keep it as a mid bass.

I had similar woofer ( kicker ) mounted on my doors, I removed them and installed midbass now, the door used to shake and rattle with anything with bass, I hated it. and that was with dynamat and all bolts tight.

hopefully you have better luck, it looks great.

I put a small 300 watt 2 channel amp under the driver seat, I tucked the wiring under the carpet past the seat, then ran it neatly through conduit under the center console. The incision for the wiring into the carpet is maybe an inch from the side of the amp and the wiring goes under the seat rail into the e-brake area where the carpet ends. You can also pull larger audio cable through the door seal rather than use the stock 8 speaker wiring. I have an 8 speaker door harness on my driver door which I swapped from the donor, but on the passenger side I have my stock 6 speaker harness with two thick speaker wires I ran through the wiring harness door seal. Trust me, running two thicker and heavier insulated wires is easier than fooling with the oem 8 speaker harness.
Lol and if you wanna do it right run your power wiring in the conduit under the driverside fender into the fusebox. I have my fender off right now and I plan to add some amp power wires to the oem harness while I'm rewiring a 1mz into the engine bay
