simple questions.


for the price, ive been told oem wires are the best
1. but what about spark plug?
2. how do u know if your wires are bad/its time to change
3. Are there toyota spark plugs and are they worth it?


what about oem replacement wires such as bosch and/or denso, "autolite" "duralast" etc?
where can i find oem wires instead of the dealership?.

i read about STi wires, whatsup with that?

Platinum and iridium sparkplugs are preferred for durability, not performance. Being harder, they can be honed to a sharper edge which lasts longer. However, actual performance is no better than standard copper plugs, as long as you change your copper plugs regularly. Cost-wise, it works out cheaper to run coppers, though over the life of an iridium plug the difference is not as great as one might expect. The stock design calls for copper plugs.

Denso and NGK are part suppliers to Toyota, so they basically are Toyota's plugs. In fact, they're both listed in the repair manuals.

Spark Plugs replacement interval:
1.8L (7A-FE) ................ 36 months .............. 30,000 kms
2.2L (5S-FE) ................ 72 months .............. 60,000 kms

Similarly, they're considered OEM for wires, though any decent brand will do the job -- most of the higher priced ignition wire sets are in the same category as Monster cables, hype-based. That said, 1sttoyotaparts.com has great prices on Toyota parts, usually only somewhat more expensive than you'd find with an aftermarket brand (e.g. 1.8L wire set from 1sttoyotaparts.com is $57, NGK from rockauto.com costs $40).

NGK every time.

Iridium and platinum are not needed in our cars. Just use V-Power.

NGK plugs can be found at just about any auto parts store.

The NGK wires can be found on Rockauto.com or maybe O'Reilly or Advance Auto Parts. I know Autozone doesn't carry them.

You already have that answer -- convenience versus cost. Personally, I use the spark plugs the manual calls for, rather than substituting something else entirely.
