there is a guy in my city who has a small tune shop and does 4 runs with wideband and boost reference(not sure what this is) for $80.

but I'm not sure what I should ask, or look for, or anything. I've never done a dyno before so I'm not sure how it will help me other than just tell me my torque and HP. I guess if I post up here some people might be able to tell me if something might be wrong. but other than that I don't know what to do.

any tips or suggestions?

It's really not going to help you unless you're using it as a baseline to see the effect of future mods.

If you're using it to get it tuned then its a big help... Even if its reading high or low its reallly not going to be able to tell anything, some dynos read high some low.

Really its used for a tuning tool and thats about it.

a few things, kev.
ill assume the dyno is a dynojet
first, bring a thumbdrive or something with you so that you can have the dyno operator put the runfiles on, so that you can look at them later at home, and compare with other guys setups ect (i have a TON of runfiles i can share with ya) you can download the dynojet software @ dynojet.com.
the boost refrence is basicly a map sensor for the dynojet software, that will show you exactly what your boost level is, thruout your runs. its good to have, again to compare with others setups, ect, it allows you to see how the turbo is spooling ect. ( the dyno guy will look for a spot to tap in for the signal, the hose that connects the the bov is usually a good spot thats easy to access.)
make sure the operator has good airflow over the heat exchanger, most will have some type of fans to put in front of the car to approximate street driving.
since your on the stock ecu, there isnt much you can do while on the dyno as far as tuning, but you can run diffrent boost levels, to get an idea of what your power is at certain boost levels.
once you do that, you can use that information to compare with others setups, look for flaws in the runs that would indicate problems or issues with your setup, ect.
before you go, make sure your oil is clean, and full.
same for the coolant, ect...make sure you have at least 1/4 tank of gas.
if the dyno operator is going to drive the car on the dyno, make sure he is aware of the redline so he dont end the run early.
with the s54 tranny, 4th gear runs are best. shift from 3rd to 4th @ ~2800rpm, so that you start your 4th gear pull ~ 2000-2200rpm or so. (4th gear is the closest to a 1:1 ratio in the S54)
for the E153, most do 3rd gear pulls, just cause 4th gear is so much longer.
have a plan before you go, as far as what you want to do for each pull.
for instance,
you may want to do runs at diffrent boost levels, so if you do, play with your boost controller before you get there, get a feel for how much you need to adjust it to get the levels you want.
set it for the lowest boost level you want to run when you first get there, and turn it up for each run.
the dyno can be alot of fun, i know i love going there, hell...i would dyno every weekend, just for the hell of it if i could afford it! haha.
it can be a great tool to find small issues, (or big ones..lol) fine tune things, compare settings, ect.
