Did the GT4 really come without an airbag? I just bought a leather/stitched steering wheel out of Okinawa and theres no airbag?
For a car that was fast out of the box, fresh from the dealership, this seems a little odd? |

Maybe earlier models. I have Japanese Celica brochures from 94-99. The later ones had the same 3-spoke airbag wheel as the lesser models. However, many European versions did not come with airbags.

the usdm celicas all came with airbags, but in japan (as well as canada and many other countries), they were an option. my sisters 94 GT came with the 3-spoke wheel and has no airbags.

True, because mine came from the UK and didn't have air bag application, even the part for the horn isn't the same and I need to hook mine up. In JDM models, airbags are optional...
Never seen an airbag in 1994 model, But according to the JDM owners manual (translation), it seems to indicate that some 1994 models had a driver air bag. Between 1994 and 1997 if you have airbags it's a 4 post wheel, if you don't then it's a 3 post wheel. (Never seen a 4 post non air bag wheel) Between 1994 and 1995 it's a hard plastic wheel, between 1996 and 1997 it's a stitched leather wheel. Between 1998 and 1999 i believe all SS-II and SS-III models have a 3 spoke red stitched air bag wheel. Unsure about SS-I and GT-Four models in 1998, no experience with them. -------------------- Mike W

My 1st Celica
60km/h VS 80km/h (head on crash with another car driving on the wrong side of the road) no airbags. got seatbelt whiplash, sore chest where i hit the steering wheel, minor pains lasting 3 days, bruises healed after 7 days... Celica's body will crumple and absorb a big impact keeping alot of shock out of the cabin. Airbags are nice, but I don't see them as being the difference between life and death. 45100-2B310-CO
According to my parts catalogue however that doesnt look like a normal part number. You would also need the horn/centre cover too LHD - 45130-2B270-CO RHD - 45130-2B290-CO All the above for non airbag afaik, but check before you buy!
