The name is ultimately derived from the Latin word coelica meaning "heavenly" or "celestial" Correct, but why? geez...why is red, red and blue, blue? It's a japanese car as long as it sounds cool, it doesn't matter... It's like the legendary sword: Sword of the heaven of the clustering clouds ;) |

Actually, there are specific reasons -- tracing back to the Toyoda (note the spelling) patron. If you look up early generations of Celicas, they're adorned with a dragon logo. More specifically, a dragon designed to mimic the Chinese dragons carved onto what are known, understandably, in North America as dragonboats, of which Toyoda was a fan.
The blue dragon used was to represent a heavenly, or celestial dragon. Thus Celica, and the first-gen's symbol. The Celica's sister car is the Carina, which is a set of stars which is part of a constellation no longer commonly recognized -- Argo Navis, the ship. The Argo was the ship, largely powered by Greek heroes rowing, used by Jason in his quest to steal the Golden Fleece. After his success, the gods moved the Argo into the sky as a constellation. |

Not positive on the exact reasoning of celica, but I've been informed that alot of the Toyota's were named beginning with a C as a sign of good fortune.

Camry and Corona also are related to royal elements...Corona meaning crown. Forgot what Camry means exactly.
