So I just installed the pioneer head unit that supports 50w per speaker and I got 4 alpine type r speakers that support a peak 600w per pair (1200w total) . And I hooked the unit up connected to the factory amp, which I'm thinking was not such a good idea. When I installed they two front speakers they sounded decent, but it seems like the rear speakers are barely letting sound out. At first I was thinking it was the speakers, but now I think the amp to the unit is distorting the signal for the speakers. Would it be better for me to replace the factory amp with a pioneer amp to get these alpines with better power and clarity or is the factory amp not a problem?

did u use the rca outs of your radio to the amp. the amp cannot take direct line from the radio, mor likely you fried it why not just ditch the amp and use the radio alone.

Yea I feel dumb I just checked the sticky that says its better to use the amp in the unit, but I did use the rca from the radio to the factory amp. I could just get a pioneer amp for the pioneer unit to replace the amp under the dash right? Or would I also have to remove the amp under the driver's seat for better quality? What's your opinion?

bypass the factory amplifier located underneath ac climate controls. unbolt the amplifier with a 10 mm and then unplug the 2 harnesses in the read of amplifier. if you purchased a wiring harness (17-1761) it should plug directly into the harnesses you unplugged from the amplifier. but consider the fact that any aftermarket radio has typically 18-22 rms watts and the type r speakers u purchased requires about 110 watts rms max. consider buying an 4ch amp.

Yea... I ended up ordering a 4 channel pioneer amp witha max of 760 watts to match with the pioneer head unit. I was wondering why the original wire harness did not fit, because its connected to the amp. I got the harness that connects from the amp to the original head unit and I spliced it from there so I was able to use the coaxial input for the speakers into the pioneer head unit. It cost $30 from autozone >.< which was a waste of $$ so I dont feel like buying another harness... eBays got them for waaayyy cheaper and is well worth the wait. I found the correct settings for the rear speakers which were originally set to be subwoofers and found that one of the speakers was a defect from the factory so I sent it to be replaced. The speakers actually worked pretty well with the factory amp, but I will soon be getting that 4 channel amp for $130 from eBay Pioneer 6500F 4 Channel.

So are you going to run new wires from amp to speakers ?

if you are upgrading all the speakers but specifically the rear sounds lower, is because it actually needs to be amped by an aftermarket one, the stock amp is crap. if you go back to the stockspeakers, you'll notice it'll get louder thats 1 way to tell

I wasnt planning on it, will it make a big difference?


Yup I can't wait till the amp comes in, because I could tell the stock amp can't supply enough power all around, I could hear the rear speakers going on and off, it's annoying.
