Just chiming in...

Here in Okinawa where there is no real freeway longer than 80km(ish) I do mostly city driving. Couple that with a heavy foot at times and my MPG isn't so hot. For a 98 BEAMS with an auto tranny and just an intake, over the last 8 months, I averaged 21.6 MPG! laugh.gif

Ouch. I get a decent mixture of city and highway miles and with mine running pig rich, I still get 33-34 mpg.

I like this alot because it helps show how the aerodynamics of the car change with velocity

by the way.... that HAS to be an st model.

The aerodynamics would be the same, so that's also the best fuel economy for a gt..... but there is not a gt on the planet that gets :cough: 48mpg! at 60mph..... I don't even this ST's get that kind fuel economy....

28/34 is the original rating. I guess if you were to pulse and glide, and coast whenever possible those kind of numbers would be possible.

These cars really should have had a sixth gear. Could you imagine being at 2500 rpm @ 60 mph

More gears! Guess that's why the 7GC GT-S get as good mpg as it does, even with 180 hp.

^ And there's a 7th gen tranny which fits the 7A, called the C60...six gears.

likely not much. The energy needs of the car to push through the air at any given velocity are the same no matter what transmission you have.... I'm sure there is some to be gained, but does the 7a have enough torque to run a 6th gear that is presumably higher?

The internal drag of the engine and transmission would be reduced with a sixth gear. This is why you arent cruizing around in third or fourth.
The engine is creating alot more friction and heat with its internals spinning faster.

heat yes, friction neglibile. The bearings on the crank etc aren't going to have increased drag? but there will be less resistive force put on the engine from less backpressure etc....

But again, no sense in a 6th gear if the motor can't handle it.... need MOAR POWAR and torque for extra gearing...

Windage, oil pump, driven accessories, like I said you dont drive in 4th because its too much work for the engine. My 5SFE could handle another gear, Im in 5th at 30mph

7afe is an A series engine
2zzge is a ZZ series engine.

THe c60 transmission will be a direct fit onto the 7a engine. You'll need the Toyota Levin BZ-R 6 speed transmission, which is a C160 transmission that comes stock with a helical lsd.
