Too boxy on the rear end. Looks like they pasted WRX STI fenders onto it.

The car looks horrible I'm glad I picked up a EvoX instead of waiting for this car, a used 13 year old mkiv supra is a better bargain looks and performance wise.

Also, will be called the GT86 in Europe and possibly just the 86 in Japan.

I have joined ft86club long time ago to keep an eye on this car. I have also raised my thoughts in this very thread a number of pages ago and honestly speaking I think I am abandoning that forum.

For the past 8 months or so every time we got a glimpse of would be an ft-86 concept I kept telling myself... ok I can see how that could work, worst case scenario its salvageable through body kits or changing out tail lights or headlights. Not anymore. With production version officially released I do not think that there is a single angle of that car that appeals to me.

Car borrows design features from 7th gen celica (hood), front bumper from mazda whatever its called, tail lights from subaru and square-ish looks from mitsubishi. Now do not get me wrong... subie and evo are not exactly appealing to the eye but at the very least they have major cahones which ft-86 will not have.

I have a long list of things I hate about the car.

Things like poorly designed trunk which is reminiscent of my coupe celicas that I have owned. With rear seats folded down it is still next to impossible to fit anything long into the vehicle. Likewise with passenger seat folded down it will be impossible to fit long things into it. Those of you who have coupes know exactly what I am talking about.

Another problem is that as car evolved... or should I rather say "de"-volved... it took all the things that people would have liked and replaced them with things that make no appeal to anyone. Think about mitsubishi lancer. Try to remember how many lancers have you seen in past 5 years? Another perfect example is toyota iq. There are photos floating all over the interwebs with body kit from hell and you want that car baaaad... and yet production version of iq is just unbelievably bland. FT-86 follows same principle. FRS scion version does not have the feel of the scion. Thankfully brz version is more down to earth.

Another thing is the interior. I know evo has a really bland interior but at the very least you are so involved in having fun driving that you do not pay attention to things like that. In ft-86 everything seems like it was borrowed from a chevy impala or something. It feels plasticky, all switches and consoles are not helpful to the driver but to passengers sitting on rear seat who's legs you had to cut off to fit them there.

Finally there is the body styling that cries for help from every which angle. Subaru BRZ looks virtually identical to Scion FRS but it feels like someone at their design studio knows how to design cars. There are no horrible looking altrezza lights in the back and front bumper actually looks like a front bumper and not like a front bumper that ran over a speed hump and twisted under car's weight.

So for a while I thought... I honestly thought that it could be possible to salvage the looks by using aftermarket parts on the car. Unfortunately because entire vehicle does not have a single curve to it... any and whatever kits will also come square-ish thus being less appealing. Prime example of such bumper is mitsubishi evo. Most evo owners drive with stock bumpers because aftermarket ones are not much different than stock so not worth the investment.

Good thing that I never wanted this car... otherwise I would have been horribly disappointed.

Chill out negative nancys...

Speedhunters review

Guarantee it will be five times more fun to drive than a FWD celica and i don't see you guys bitching about those...don't buy one if it doesn't suit your ridiculously high expectations...it's still just a $25,000 car...what do you expect, a ****ing BMW m3 like performance?!

Honestly that's too bad. Then again our silly numbers here in 6GC is only 1/6590845689th of the fraction of the population anticipating it. I think it's well done. Outside looks unique (yes it looks like this and that, but when you look at newer cars nowadays, they all look like something was stolen from something else. Switch activated A/C?! that's just genius!

Power comes from Subaru's 1,998 cc horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine, featuring Toyota's direct injection system and a pretty high 12.5:1 compression ratio. The naturally aspirated motor revs smoothly past 7,000 rpm, developing 197 HP (200 PS) and 151 lb/ft. It's all very linear and despite its more than adequate performance, you can't help but feel like the chassis could take so much more.

I'd be willing to bet an SS3 could school this thing and look better doing it

you look the same everytime you beat someone in a straight line. The track? I dont think the SS3 would even come close. It's RWD. That should say more than enough. It'll look better doing everything an SS3 would do.

Not in a straight line, on a race track. anything can go in a straight line it takes a real car to go around curves and fast.

if it really does have only 200 ps I'd say thats a weak engine. inline 4's produced that power in the early 90's. we are now 10 years advanced in technology and all they can come up with is 200ps?? I'll just wait and see what the reviews (hands on drivers) have to say about this before making any assumptions.

mehh at the same time true at the fact of the supposed revival of the AE86 which had have low horsepower. So in turn it is a step up from the older hachi per say????

To be honest the engine leaves something to be desired in my opinion...if i wanted something cheap, rwd and fun to drive id blow money on a s14...wait already did that....if i wanted something NEW nice looking and a blast to drive...id purchase the BMW as someone else previously stated....Wait in the process of doing that..

But honestly i look at it like this. Being a 6gc fan i can either swap engines, build up a bad ass 250hp celica that can be a real joy to drive...
Wait another 8 years ( or just go to canada right now) and import my lovely st205 which (aside from weight) already has this FT86 beaten in alot of areas...

Or wait a good year to see how well this car performs on the track in stock form, see what crazy things can be done to it by ppl with more money than myself and make a better judgment call then

I mean seriously alot of you guys are judging a car that has yet to be in the hands of one of US...you know a real broke ass consumer...how about we hold our reservations about it until we can actually test drive one or see someone else drive the living piss out of it..

I wasnt even a real 6gc fan in the past mostly because i hated the round headlights...but the 205 grew on me...**** maybe this car will grow on some of you that say this and that about it...anywho its whateves...
