i expected something more refined from toyota. Please look at the BRZ, it is more refined

I dont get it. They look the same except the front bumper. .Which imo is poop looking.
Do they not look the same to you?

I think the brz front bumper is less aggressive, smoother.. and in the picture the brz doesn't have that awful spoiler smile.gif

The BRZ is probably just going to be the AWD version of the FT-86/FRS (whatever they decide to call it).

To answer your question about which concept appealed to me... that would be Scion FRS that debuted at New York Auto Show. It was absolutely THE vehicle I would very much be praising right now. While vehicle did not feature any specific engine, it did have a very radical body styling that very very much appeals to me. The crazy tail lights, the crazy rear defuser, front bumper stayed relatively true to concept model that came with led light bars (which I wish it had in concept 2), it also had a interesting rear window thing going for it. Car was done by 5 axis if I recall correctly... and it was done right.

By contrast production version is turtlenecking.

I kind of understand what you mean when looking at the two side by side like this. yes, the body of the FRS Concept looks more sculpted and edgier. But that is (EDIT: mainly) restricted to the front fenders and front bumper. Its just a few lines that were smoothed for the production model probably because of production costs. Other than that, the tail lights are the only noticeable change. Which I actually like the ones on the 86 better.

But yes, I can see where you liked the FR-S better, but I don't think that the 86 is that drastic of a departure from the concept.

No, there are many more noticeable changes - compare the crease right behind the door line on the concept, then on production. Much better looking before it was messed with. However, a bit o' lowering and a wheel change should do wonders, as is also a big difference between the two.

The concept tails were amazing, that reminds me of baby LFA rear there.

Now that I've seen the production model photos, I think this could be the thing to replace my Celica next year.

There are a few more pics here. Looks great in black!

It will depend on final pricing, which here in Oz is rumoured to be anywhere between $30k and $40k at this stage.

It will also depend on how it drives too. If it's no better than my 6th gen with Beams and coilovers they can forget it. Maybe...

Time to stop spending money on my Celica and start saving instead I think!!! smile.gif

I'd say some people might be disappointed when they want to get an aftermarket exhaust. A single sided exhaust is sufficient enough for this thing. helk even the supra only came with one sided exhaust. Even older STI's come with one sided exhaust.

this will be like the Honda AP2 guys have a hole on the rear bumper due to their single sided exhausts.

Unfortunately, Subaru is doing the building and painting so we won't be getting Toyota colors.

I'll hold judgement until I see the paint in a bunch of pictures or in person.

ft86club just posted an update. They are considering developing a factory supercharged kit for the vehicle. Not a surprise considering that TRD produces supercharges. Unfortunately they are a bit pricey. Well.. quite a bit more pricey than you would expect. Last time I checked dealership install would have cost $3500-$4200.

Subaru will sell their version for $24K standard and $27K for upgraded version with better seats, wheels, brakes etc.
