Nope, never truly done. There's still more. Switching to the OEM 3S-GE exhaust at some point, as well as the GT4 front conversion. As of now, that's all we have planned but... Never truly done. So here are some pictures as the last update for a little while.
Decided to find out what the Greytop would like like if it went in the Celica. All I really did was put the Greytop valve cover and intake manifold on the Redtop, but still. The new BEAMS emblem on the trunk lid. And just a shot of the light output of the projectors for kicks and giggles. While we're moving and not making any progress on the car, we have a side project going. Not sure how it's going to turn out, but it's something small and cosmetic and cheap. We'll see what happens. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. No update. Just posting pictures of the tinkering we've been doing. Brigette painted our spare valve cover and intake manifold. It was supposed to be metallic red but turned out kind of a deep orange/red. I like it as a color but I'm not so sure it fits an engine.
It occurs to me that black would look sweet. Maybe later. Then I had to take the rear tires off and check out my brakes. Then I saw my 7th gen. If you had a 7th gen that didn't run, wouldn't you swap rims? I've never really been a fan of 7th gen wheels on a 7th gen, apart from one of Spolski's old pictures. I gotta say, seeing them in pictures and seeing them in person is different. I kinda like them in person. They're just on the car for a day though. We've got new tires on the 6th gen rims and the tires on the GT-S rims are pretty ratty. Anyway, sorry for the crappy iPhone pics not really any real progress to merit getting my camera out. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. I can't help but be positive Dan; both the engine paint and the 7th Gen. wheels suit the car nicely. Aesthetically, she's gorgeous.

Does it have the red lined center caps? Can't see well in the picture. Like the new paint, though the red top is nice looking, it has always reminded me of the prostitute lipstick red. The change gives it "class" This post has been edited by rave2n: Jan 11, 2012 - 9:27 AM |

nice work. what kind of plug/relay do you need for the little bulb thats next to the low beam projectors??? I just cut my USDM fender sidemarker plugs off and spliced the projector sidemarkers in. Great success!! So did you ever find out what was problem with the red top that was giving you the hesitation? Yeah, it was the VVT controller on the intake cam. I replaced the entire camshaft and now it all works beautifully. I can't help but be positive Dan; both the engine paint and the 7th Gen. wheels suit the car nicely. Aesthetically, she's gorgeous. Thanks Brian! Your positivity is always much appreciated. I never have been a fan of 7th gen wheels on a Celica but I figured I'd put them on anyway. I kinda like it. If I can't get my 7th gen running again, these rims will have a new permanent home. Much agreed. The rims look good on that black cellie. Does it have the red lined center caps? Can't see well in the picture. Like the new paint, though the red top is nice looking, it has always reminded me of the prostitute lipstick red. The change gives it "class" Yeah, they have the red line going around the edge of the center cap. Er, they used to anyway. They're faded now. I've always liked the Redtop red but this is Brigette's car and I'm starting to back off, let her take over. My part is more or less over after the GT4 front end and new paint, then after that, it's all her baby. All wheels are now back on their respective generations, but I snapped a few more crappy iPhone pics just as a keepsake of the time I took the OEM wheels off of the 6th gen. I thought it would never happen but I did it.

From where did you buy your engine? Also since mine is a 1994 GT manual OBDI, How would the wiring harness swap over so I could use a OBDII to read codes.?

I bought from two different importers, both on eBay. I can look them up later if you like. I know that one was japandirectjapanese but I can't remember the other. As for OBDII, there's some wiring work involved but it's not worth it. It would still send Japanese signals that US scanners can't read. You can still pull the codes, but it's OBDI style with the diagnostic box.

You don't need to look them up. Was just curious. Maybe sometime down the road I could buy myself a Beams. I also would think a Beams would be a better choice for me cause boost can be a little bit to addicting, and my right foot is heavy.

The BEAMS can be addicting too I cant wait to see this car in person. Are you gonna be adding any ss III exterior bits? Nah, no SS-III bits. We're going with a GT4 front end and we'd prefer Euro raiser blocks but we'll probably go with GT4 blocks. As for the wheels, we both have other rims we prefer but if nothing ever happens with my 7th gen, then we've got those rims for free. 7gen wheels with the GT4 mod? Congrats BTW!!... Thanks Rob! now i have noticed slight difference with the oem intake, its much quieter, but less responsive...
Takes a minute to start. But a beams can be nice -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I hardly log in anymore, last login Today Sept 6 2019, and I was forced just to clarify a post. LOL

I did notice that it takes a bit longer to start, but I'm fine with the quietness of the intake. I barely noticed any difference in response but I did notice that my low end seems improved but top end lost a bit. Overall, I'd rather have the factory intake. I prefer the look of the engine bay with it (weird, I know) and the comfort of knowing I have the best intake for my BEAMS.
In other news, I was averaging an estimated 37 mpg (mostly highway) with the BEAMS. I can't get the car long enough to measure it accurately, but at 3/4 tank, I was at 150 miles when my best record with the 5S was 125. So just estimating 600 miles in 15.9 gallons gives me 37.7 miles per gallon. Again, just an estimation. I'm hoping she'll drive it easy for a tank so we can see what kind of gas mileage the BEAMS can do. She likes driving too quickly though, so she gets 24-27 out of it. I'll see if I can get it soon to get a good tank. I was originally somewhat opposed to the idea of changing from the factory red but having seen these in the burnt orange color, I think they'd look great in black. Depending on how Brigette feels about her covers, if she wants to keep them orange, then I've got spare covers you could use so there wouldn't be any downtime with your car.
