Hey all
I just came in from under the car and im about to kill some one. Im doing my front and rear engine mounts. Now this seems like a simple task as ive done it before on other cars. now the problem is. Jacked car up and on stands, Cross member bolts are out and front engine mount off. My problem is with the rear mount. all the bolts are out and both the mount and crossmember are free but stuck and wont come out. ive jacked engine up and down but cant get it out. the problem is there is not enough room to get the mount out. anyone done this recently that might be able to shed light on my problem. Thanks in advance\ Bevan |

Remove the mount from the block, not the crossmember. Should be 2 bolts holding her in. Otherwise you'll never get that crossmember out.
I did the same thing on my 7a, I was screaming and cursing for over an hour. Then we went back and read the directions step by step, and it was quite specific about removing from the block for this exact reason. We could move the crossmember around all we wanted, just there was no angle to take it out. This post has been edited by rave2n: Jan 13, 2012 - 6:43 AM |

Pretty sure you'll need ratchet or end wrenched to remove it from the block. I don't think I could get my 3/8 ratchet to the bottom bolt on the block.

Yea I had to use a deepwell socket to get it out, I believe I ended up kneeling on the valve cover to get it done too.
If I remember correctly that is the reason I didn't try to get it otu of the block first because it was such poor spot, but the end result was I had to get that bolt, to get her out. This post has been edited by rave2n: Jan 13, 2012 - 7:33 AM |

I feel your pain its quite tricky. You'll have to mess with it for a while good luck.... I think it took me over an hour to get the rear one on (since it was my first time). takes 15 min breaks in between to clear your head.

Just a tip, if you havn't got her out yet.
Lower the suspension crossmember after you remove the center bolt from the mount. Sorry for the earlier bad advice, was just the only way I've done it before. Just did it yesterday by lowering the whole suspension crossmember...so easy to get out after that. |

have you tried squirting some dish soap on there to make it easier to slip the mounts on

have you tried squirting some dish soap on there to make it easier to slip the mounts on Havn't heard that trick. Just battled with my rear mount yesterday, the biggest issue was the steering rack getting in the way. I literally just dropped the whole suspension crossmember and supported with a jack, and it went right in without lifting or rotating the engine. |
