Come out here every winter for christmas! No car, no friends, just family lol. Bought a ****load of tools this winter so I can do my own work on my gt4...got the whole manual cheat sheet might as well save on mechanic fees and get my mechanic gloves dirty lol.
yeah it would be cool if it wasn't that far, Infact I wouldn't even mind the drive except I have no ride lol...everything is off limits to me...sucks. I got to ask permission just to blow a fart around here... I also get to suffer 0 updates from my mechanic and 1 picture of just a bunch of parts... :S If ur not on them they don't work...which screwed my deadline because the car had to go and get the diff cushion changed bumper body panels and paint and the CF hatch has to get the glass transplanted...I wish I could clone myself -------------------- |

Yeah, paying for a mechanic blows. I've figured out that a Philips screwdriver and a 12mm socket can virtually completely disassemble a Celica, so there's no reason to pay a mechanic for most things. I wouldn't mind driving there, but it'd be hard to get the 7th gen there, so it would defeat the purpose. How long are you there? Surely there are a few 6gc members close to you that you could set up a meet with.

I'm pretty sure bloodMoney is only like 15-20 minutes away from Hinsdale, and then there are a few other members in Chicago but I can't remember who right now. Enderswift I know for sure, but I'm having trouble remembering who else.

All of us are pretty localized. 4eyedfreek and Shigexile are in Schaumburg I believe, Driver is in some southwest suburb and I'm right by the Airport (O'Hare)
I actually had my car taken apart last night in Schaumburg to replace the water pump, timing belt and oil pump seals (which are still leaking ) -------------------- ~bloodMoney

I fixed the water pump leak.
For some reason, the oil pump is still leaking.... I just ordered a new front plate for the motor, oil pump already attached. I'll go up to MI and fix it there next weekend. I hate how I'll have to pull the oil pan though. -------------------- ~bloodMoney

I still know where you can get a 7th gen at a great price! Then you can work on that and pretend like Abby is all good. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. What kills me is that if I had done some research this past summer, I could've just replaced the front plate w/oil pump while it was still warm out and avoided all this mess....
I also just found out that I can get employee pricing on the Mitsubishi of my choice (excluding the EVO). I'm thinking AWD + 4 doors = new daily? -------------------- ~bloodMoney

They're nice cars, I have a friend with a Lancer (FWD N/A) and it seems well built, as do the other more recent Mitsu I've worked on.

Chris- As much as I love Celicas.... Do it! Evo FTW. I'll be honest, Brigette and I test drove an '06 WRX a few days ago. I really just wanted her to get a feel for boost, but it turns out I kinda like the car. Might've bought it if it wasn't "Look at me!" red. I prefer my "Look at me!" blue Lexus. Still might be interested though. Warranty, AWD, slightly better has mileage... Can't go wrong.
I just now realized how far off topic this thread has gotten Back on topic, everything is more or less official. I'll be driving 150 miles per day for work, but I'll be getting extra money for it. I'm thinking this Celica looks great. Way better of a work car than my IS 300. Use the extra money, fix the Celica, have a semi-fun gas sipper. After that, my nephew might buy either my Lexus or the Celica, but he might not. In the meantime, I'll have 4 days off starting Sunday and with high's near 60, the weather looks great to start tearing this car down. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Nah, no moonshine though I think it would be profitable to run moonshine to where I work. I'm in mine construction. Any time coal mines want to sink a new slope or air shaft, they hire companies like mine. The company I work for is one of the biggest in the country. The work isn't easy but it pays well. It finds my BEAMS addiction. BEAMS are like crack to me. I'm already 40 miles one way from my job site and 40 miles one way in a different direction from the girlfriend's house, so I spend an insane amount of time driving and an insane amount of money on gas. The lady and I talked about it and we decided to move somewhere nicer and I would transfer job sites, but my boss bribed me nearly $1,000 a month to stay where I'm at and drive the distance. Taking that into consideration, I have a great car sitting in my yard. It's cheap on gas and kind of a beater do if anything happens, it isn't a big deal. I see no reason, apart from the effort it will take, to not get this car running.
Besides, my parents prefer 7th gens. Losers. Pfft. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Even Socrates told us to use the search button!

Toyota is bent on putting their Hybrid Synergy Drive in every single vehicle they sell. They make it no secret that they fully intend to have a hybrid option of every vehicle they sell- yet they haven't put it in the Corolla... Guess they're afraid that the Corolla will kill Prius sales. I'd be fine with never seeing another Prius clogging up the highways. Is it possible to jack my own thread? I think I just did. They did put the HSD in a Corolla Dan - the HS250h was a Corolla-based Lexus hybrid. It was killed off due to poor sales though. -------------------- Has no more Celicas

the guy at the dealer said they did the tests to see how much driving it would take you to make a difference in gas mileage for the higher price of it... 18 years he said...lol.. comparing the dollars you save in buying another car...8 grand goes a long way.

Brian, I checked out the HS250h. It looks like the HS uses a 2.4 liter, whereas the 'Rolla still uses a 1.8. Had Lexus used the 1ZZ, they would have a gas mileage machine on their hands. The CT200h is the closest thing they've got to a hybrid Corolla right now and it barely does any better than a Corolla, if I remember correctly. They could do so much better...
Corolla > Prius So I've more or less decided this car isn't worth my time. I don't reay like 7th gens all that well, nor do I want to spend any more money on this car or put any work into it. Next week, I'll be living an hour and a half from the car. I don't want to drive that far to work on a car I don't care about. I'll be stripping the car of a few things and getting rid of it. For the money I would spend on this car, I'd rather buy something that already runs. I might just trade the IS off for something more fun or something a lot more fun that gets better gas mileage. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates.
