TO MODS: If this is not where it's supposed to be, could you be so kind as to please move it to where it should be? Thank you!
---------------------- RACELAND COILOVERS I am currently talking with a rep from Raceland (http://www.racelandus.com) to see if they're willing to make some of their coilovers for us Celica owners. ====== THE GOOD:
2. Some of us don't want to spend a lot of money doing this because sometimes that kind of money will be more than what we spent for the car initially. 3. We only have two options regarding suspension: KYB or Coilovers. 4. Koni front inserts are okay, but at $347 a pair for just the front... it's not really an appealing thing for some of us. The rears require tools and guts some of us don't have/aren't willing to develop, ESPECIALLY when considering something so expensive shouldn't require even slight modification to fit. 5. Our coilover options are ABOVE $800 for a full set, some of which come with features we don't really NEED like damping adjustment. It's not bad, but it's not necessary in a lot of cases (when you think about it, you can't adjust KYB GR-2... so you don't really need adjustability of dampers unless you're racing) THE BETTER: Raceland offers a two-year warranty on their coilovers. The policy can be found HERE THE BAD: Just like most other companies' entry-level coilovers, these ARE NOT covered for abuse, such as autocrossing or any kind of extreme race applications. Improper installation, modifications to the coilover itself and such will void the warranty. What does this mean? If you use them for daily driving, and they happen to blow on you, you can have them replaced under warranty. ====== With that said, these coils are in the ballpark of $400 including strut mounts and height adjustment tools. They offer progressive springs and set-rate springs as well for some vehicles, so they could do the same for us. The coils go as far as 3" drop on some cars. ====== So, summarizing: $400 coilovers that go anywhere from 1" to 3" of height drop, with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. They are also the only coilover company that offers a 2-year warranty. They're not BAD, either, because I've read from tons of different owners that run these coils as DD coilovers and they say they're just fine (specifically Mazda owners). They ride comfortable and are adjustable, what more can you want? Who's up for some height-adjustable coils? That's exactly what I'm going to ask them first if there is enough interest. Otherwise, they wouldn't even bother, I'd bet. I sent them a message regarding a group buy to see what they would respond.
I'm not a rep for their company in any way, I'm just a consumer with a Celica that isn't willing to spend money on things he doesn't need. I'm getting a set of these coilovers for my Mazda3 sedan in a month when I get a check I'm waiting for. $369 + shipping is something I cannot pass by. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

If I am successful on getting them to make some for us, you could try and do the same for st205 superstrut suspension.
Also, it would be nice if you guys could e-mail them through their webpage as well to start showing interest. This post has been edited by Syaoran: Feb 3, 2012 - 6:24 PM -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Just know guys you''ll get what you pay for with racelands. I've riden in 3 bimmers with them and every single one had a bouncy ride. Not saying its not worth $400, just dont expect to get megan or tein ride quality.

Were the bimmers you rode in completely slammed or something similar?
I'm looking to lower my car just as much as I would with springs, not slam it. Springs alone are $200, and shocks are almost another $300, so $500 total for a new set of struts + springs without taking into consideration strut mounts, which is $50 per mount, for a total of $200 more. Basically you'd get a $200+$300+$200 = $700 package in a $400 package. Without the adjustable shocks I bet these are bouncy when slammed all the way down. Are they bouncy 1" down? Maybe not. Are they bouncy in a Celica? Maybe, maybe not. It's an economical option, and I'm willing to risk my chances, given they offer a SATISFACTION guarantee, which NO OTHER company offers, and it's good for up to TWO years, not 1 like Tein and Megan. It's not like Tein and Megan ride like a cloud, or so I've read. It's the bane of non-stock suspension. Whoever is willing to do sportier suspension should be willing to compromise a little comfort. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

One of the bimmers was, the other 2 were also fairly low. But they have a totally different suspension setup. Ill be interested to see how these come out, may pick up a set if they are any good.

I'm with Andrew. If these get decent reviews by 6gc owners (if the GB happens), I'll be on board. -------------------- taking too long to mod since '09

I had racelands on my 2000 Jetta. They were awesome, as long as you didn't pull the helper springs. With the helpers removed, I could lay frame with my 6gc rims and tires.
I would buy right now if they offered it. |

Edited the first post. Added their warranty, and fixed a mistake or two. Please re-read if you missed anything.

I had racelands on my mk4 Jetta...no helper springs and no perches in the rear.
It was tucking tire on all four corners. Yes it was bouncier than OEM, but it wasn't horrible. I DD the car for nearly 20-30k miles with the racelands and never regretted it. They are 40100% coilovers you get what you pay for. Soon for stupid cheap they ain't bad. But there is WAY better. |
