Done some research on these but couldn't find the info I was looking for so I'm asking the community for help.
1. To my understanding the USDM low beam bulbs do not fit the projectors (9006 to H4? I think?) so as far as wiring goes do I just take the old wiring off and just resolder to the new ones or do I need a resistor or something in between to get the current down? 2. Does the high beam bulbs the same between USDM and projectors? Thanks -Dave |

High beam bulbs are both 9005 bulbs. USDM low beams are 9006 and the projectors are H1. You can either cut off your car's 9006 plug and solder in the H1 plug or better still, go with the plug and play harness that several of us have.

This is the wrong forum (exterior).
Check the Interior/Electrical forum ![]() There you can find the stickies: Electrical Sticky In the sticky you can read up on your info: Lights/Bulbs Anyway.. Low beam headlamp: USDM- 9006 JDM projectors- HB4/H1 High beam headlamp USDM- 9005 JDM- HB3) If I were you I'd skip cutting/soldering the lighting harness and just buy an HID kit with the bulbs that fit accordingly. You just buy two halves of the harness and make it yourself. Mine cost $8 total. Or you can do what smkr3w suggested and buy an HID kit that will plug into a 9006 harness and allow an H1 bulb. Not all kits will do this though- my DDM kit requires that the H1 bulb plugs into the car's harness so I had to make the wiring harness.
As for the plug and play harness, search eBay for a 9006 heavy duty harness. Then your projectors may come with H1 pigtails or you might have to go to any local auto parts store and pick them up, but they don't cost very much. Cut the 9006 heavy duty harness in half, keep the female plugs, and splice them in with the H1 plugs and voila, plug and play harness done! -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. For mine I just picked up the H1 connector from the local auto store, like 3 bucks each, and spliced it in.

This changes the bulb to H1 and thus leaves your stock harness at 9006. Theres no such thing as an H1 bulb with a 9006 end, thus the adapter needs to be made. Unless you just mean don't switch to projectors and just get the right bulbs for it. This post has been edited by trdproven: Feb 8, 2012 - 7:44 PM -------------------- 94 Celica GT

Hmm, I was under the impression that someone could buy an H1 HID bulb and plug into the aftermarket ballast thats fitted for 9006.. seeing as most ballast>bulb connectors are the same. Ballast only comes into play if you have HIDs Lol that's what I'm saying, I would skip modifying/creating an adapter and move on to an HID kit. -------------------- ![]() 6gcHeroes:808hectortimmybatmandiegotigamak |

Not all HID kits will let you do that. Some will but none of the 3 kits I've had would let me around making the adapter. It'd be nice if we could get a list going of good quality HID's that don't require an adapter.

the problem is is that the H1 bulb only has wires that come out from the HID, thus this already cannot connect to the 9006 harness, thus the adapter. there is no such HID i've heard of thats called a 9006 to H1 HID kit. its either an H1 or 9006 and the only way to get it across to work is an adapter. Almost like you can't buy 6 lug wheels for 5 lug hubs, you then need an adapter also.
but yea the only other way which is sloppy is to cut your stock 9006 harness and then splice or terminal connect it straight into HID H1 bulb. bulbs are not the same they always have different connecting terminal end types. -------------------- 94 Celica GT

If I can remember later, I'll get clear pictures of my setup to show what we are talking about. Stephen_lee's kit allowed him to convert to H1 without a harness, but mine will not so I'll get pictures to explain why. I'll add them to both this thread and your DIY harness thread. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. took some pics
![]() ![]() when i ordered both highs and lows i got a box with 4 ballast and 4 bulbs all identical except bulbs themselves.. which were labeled thusly Therefore, if i were to buy projectors which accepted H1 bulbs and given I have an existing HID kit. I could buy a matching brand HID H1 bulbs and install by swapping out the old HB3's and plugging into the already installed ballast. I think what you are showing in those pictures is not going to work without some modification of the projector housing. I see no where in my projectors for you to install all that jazz unless you gut it, and mount those bulb sockets in by some means. I could be wrong, but I havn't had to remove the bulb from mine. Those shown above look more apt to fitting in the USDM OEM lows.
Regardless, the connectors are irrelevant. Know the wire pin outs, and requesting volts/ampres and make it work. |

My DDM kit uses those same plugs. However, at no point does my car's wiring touch the ballast. Both the 9006 and H1 HID bulbs plug into the car's wiring and then lead to the ballast. It's just how each manufacturer chooses to make their kit. That's why I'd love to get a list of which kits require the plug and play harness and which don't. So far we can confirm that the DDM kit requires the harness and the Xentec kit can be used as an adapter.
Quick edit: not my picture but you can see where the 9006 plug goes with the bulb, not the ballast. So with an H1 bulb from DDM, there is a need to convert the Celica's wiring to H1. ![]() This post has been edited by richee3: Feb 10, 2012 - 3:35 PM -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. SMKRW's kit is incomplete, what actually goes to that ballast is another harness from the hid kit, your stock harness needs the adapter that goes straight into the Hid bulbs spades. nowhere does the stock wiring touch the ballast. like richees pics there is another harness the black one that goes to the ballast on the upper left. so basically the stock harness goes straight into the bulb.
