Because idk if id trust a mk3 w58 with the instatorque of the 1uz. i have a mk3 supra mainly for the subframe , i got the car for 200 so even if the trans isnt up to the task its ok cause my main concern is getting the car up and running and fix what doesnt survive later i have my doubts on it also but the r154 is bigger and cost a bit more i am sure i will endup there eventually |

Yea I guess that works. The mk3 w58s seem to start to start whining (called the whine-58s) with anything over 300hp. Also the NA rear end isnt the strongest. Regardless I'm glad someone in the Celica community is finally doing something different.
Are you planning to convert to dual wishbone suspension all around? This post has been edited by SupraKid: Mar 23, 2012 - 1:45 PM |

i have looked into it for sake of steering but by my measurements so far the cradle would have to be spread bout 4 inches or so and that would increase track width beyond the fenders , the upper a arms mounts sit outside the rails so spreading is the only way it get it to sit flush or drop the cradle bout 3 inches to make it claer and the the install wouldnt be near as clean , i also have the option to switch toa newer w58 which i know they have had better luck with , plus its in a lighter car then say the supra or ls400s and sc's people are swaping into normally with this motor

Yea I remember comparing the mk3 suspension to the celicas dimensions a while back and coming to the conclusion it just wasnt worth it. I suppose with a w58 and smallish tires you wont have traction anyway, so the w58 should survive. How are you going about the shifter hole location?

I can't believe that's possible. I can't wait to see the end result of this. All that's going through my mind is, "drift drift drift drift."

I'm in to see if this is possible... When I measured for the 7mgte-r154 tranny combo the shifter hole came up in the center console, so I would imagine the 1uz-w58 would be around the coin holder....

Not to mention the interior will look like a racecar because of the huge tranny tunnel..

The engine bay is huge, it's larger than my rx7 and I fit a 6.1 liter v8, with a front mount turbo in it. There should be no problems fitting it. The one problem he's going to run into is the steering rack location. If he's using a Rwd transmission he's without a doubt going to have to move the rack and get into some serious bump steer correction. If you move the rack too far and have to correct it a lot, it'll probably drive like poopoo, very 'soft'. Will be interesting to see how he does it, getting the engine in there is the easy part. ... I got the point. Thanks for explanation! -------------------- No more replicas... This is evolution... This is SS-four :)

I'm in to see if this is possible... When I measured for the 7mgte-r154 tranny combo the shifter hole came up in the center console, so I would imagine the 1uz-w58 would be around the coin holder.... part of the reason going v8 and w58 were for these reason , the 1uz being a v8 can is a bit shorter depth ways so allows for more forward back movement when placing along with the tunnel being smaller for the w58 is and smaller trans then the r154 , i will plan for a fairly stock and functional interior no race car look ,lol |

^^ Oh yeah. Check under your arm rest, right behind the ash tray. They're not suitable for much more than a few quarters but they're there.
I'm anxiously anticipating a startup video. Just the sound of a V8 coming from a Celica... ...our cars have coin holders? 0.0 It's funny, because i was thinking "ashtray" because that is EXACTLY where I put all my change. So suprakid, if you didn't mean ashtray and actually meant the coin holder in the arm rest, my apologies. On a side note, we can calculate cost and all that jazz.... But depending on what you do to the motor.... aka, rebuild it, or just run it. I think you could get out of it for around maybe 9400.... But that is me assuming, motor, drive train, mounts, some interior mods, new tires, wheels, etc to match up with the mk3 rear end. And that is you doing all the work by yourself and factoring things in like sheet metal, consumables for welding, steering rack modifications. if you don't do all the fab work yourself it could be much worse... And that's really bare bones .... Where do you think you are going to be on cost? -------------------- |

No I meant coin holder...however i was keeping the OEM clutch fan and an oversized radiator with my 7m measurements...so the the UZ and electric fans it may be closer to the cigarette/receipt/random**** tray.
Also pxcr you are not going to cut and weld in the mk3 supra tranny tunnel? The w58 isnt much smaller than the r154 for the mk3s as it doesnt have the shifter extension on the back of it. This post has been edited by SupraKid: Mar 28, 2012 - 6:39 PM |
