No, the springs are different between the GT4, McPherson & superstrut. You haven't got the complete part number
QUOTE (BonzaiCelica) it has been said several times that the ss-III axles need to be used on the ST205 and ST202 Superstrut Hubs. link for proof. I'd thought you'd use ST205 axles with ST205 hubs on a ST205. The ST205 and ST185 use an E series transmission, SS-III/S-II etc use a S series. the axles are not interchangeable between the different transmssion series. * the SS-II also had an E series for a short time, the E56. Chances are it wont fit, read the SS swap thread? to see what was used/not used on the swap? -------------------- |

no rusty as I said they all start with that part number and finish with a 2nd set of 6 different #'s. Due to the different spring rates.
now that I'm taking a look trd japan website, the mcpherson st202 and superstrut SS-III have different front spring part numbers. and yes I know that the SS-II that came with e56 tranny from the years 94-95 also came with superstrut and twin piston calipers. Oh ya the guy is using a Camry and St185 axles on his GT4 superstrut suspension This post has been edited by BonzaiCelica: Nov 7, 2013 - 1:02 AM -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

Well you did say they were "identical" meaning the same spring was used in all: GT4 SS, McPherson & superstrut.
You've missed the point about the E and S series, and the note about SS-II with the E56 was just a side note stating the SS-II did come with an E series and was not always the S series. Got that link? -------------------- |

I'd say the splines for the from the SS-II Superstrut 94-95 models use the same spline as the SS-III superstrut axles. And since SS-II Superstrut used an E56 transmission they should have the same splines as GT4 Axles. I bet if you can find a SS-III superstrut axles they will fit into an E153 or E154 transmission. So in turn the SS-III and GT4 splines are the same. Just a theory.... logically thinking of course

k so clarification, i read somewhere all celica hubs are the same, i cant confirm that but i can confirm that GT4 hubs and usdm celica hubs (atleast the hubs on my ST) are the same as all the outer axles ive had fit in both hubs (at200/camry/st185/st205 axles fit in at200 and st205 hubs)
im currently using camry axle on pass side and st185 on drivers on st205 hubs perfect fit the halfshaft/axle stubs/inner axle are diff between trannys (with some trannys having similar inner axles) im using the traditional mr2 stubs This post has been edited by LimitedGT4: Sep 20, 2011 - 9:42 PM |

I remember members talking about that also that the gt4 and all Naturally Aspirated ST204, AT200 ST202, and ST203 did share the same hub. thanks for the reminder! I guess thats settled. Seen the sticky threads? The Suspension, Handling & Braking thread. & Superstrut ST202/ST205 suspension upgrades.
They will be pricey as I assume the comany's would have had to pay rights to use Toyota's design or its extra machining costs. Discontinued items, company closure(C-One) means there's not a lot of options anymore, apart from getting second hand stuff. Also Tein have made an announcement recently, regarding 'Super Street' and other lines are being discountinued, so once there gone, there gone. -------------------- |

if you watch from the first lap at 1:35 - 1:50 you can see that the power difference between both cars are nearly the same. Of course DC2 weighs 100kg lighter so it starts to catch up slowly. Another thing to note is how it handles the last turn (turn #8) before the start/finish line. The celica slightly break lose, but then recovers quickly and holds the turn till the end. Celica SS-III has 205/55R15 tires (which makes for soft and tall sidewall = less predictable turn in) and the Integra on the other hand has 215/45R16 tires (wider tires and harder sidewalls = more predictability into turns).

interesting counterpoint to the often repeated fact that the rally team dropped superstrut (despite it being nothing like the road cars), the btcc carina's during the 90's used superstrut suspension, so they obviously though it was worth it, how close it is to the road going versions who knows, but they obviously thought it worth something, being all circuit racing.
also regarding the rally team dropping superstrut, its of some relevance that the 2008 on subaru wrc rally cars did not feature the double wishbone rear suspension, reverting back to mack struts, as do the wrc ford focus i beleive with there rear suspension, and the same for the mitsubishi evo, i dont know the details in each case but in that context the argument seems somewhat short sighted. good stuff,
lets hope more users decide on this swap, my experience with the SS setup has been very good, some of those parts look rough there is a UK site that sells the poly inserts for the SS (not the site but has good stuff) http://www.gt4.com.pl/polyurethane/index.php |

Can you tell me by the video you watched which suspension parts need replacing? I was thinking of why toyota charges so much for these pieces. Can I get the bushings on the superstrut arms rebuit by a company here in the United States!?? -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

i cant really tell for sure, one side seems very stiff the other very loose (by comparison) the stiff side may just need some grease, the loose one seems to have torn bushes.
i dont know of any companies but im positive you can find one if you look hard enough they sell the parts http://www.fensport.co.uk/Parts/Model_19/Category_2/ dont quote me on this but rebuilding them may be a thing of torching the old one to remove them and pressing in the new ones |

How come I haven't seen any website that only sell the strut insert instead of the whole shock. as you can see here this is how we get them. From the looks of this it seems the strut inserts are different as well as the springs. Finally the complete guide on how to swap from Mcpherson to Superstrut Suspension. Still working on details to see whether you can use mcpherson springs and mcerphson strut inserts like the pic shown above. If not what other car inserts can be used. Sorry, was really busy this weekend and wasn't able to snap a couple pics of my 'modified' control arms. Since the US rack is shorter then the GT4, swapping over the GT4 inner & outer tie rods wont be long enough to reach the hubs. To make them long enough, you have 5 options: 1. Find an inner tie rod thats the correct length (about 2" longer then the GT4 rod) 2. Machine the US inner rod down to the correct length 3. Weld onto the outer rod to make it roughly 2" longer 4. Use a threaded rod and coupling to make an intermediate arm. 5. By a LHD GT4 steering rack. With the tools (and funds) I had available, I went with option 3. Another section of tie rod end. I chopped off 2" of the US tie rod end, made sure the threads were good, chamfered the outer edges (to make a nice groove for welding) and then welded. -When fitting the GT4 tie rod ends to the US rack, you'll need to lengthen the threaded section in order to make a good connection to the rack. I cut off about 2" of the stock US tie rod end and welded it on to the GT4's. This does.not.explain how i could use my us rack on my suprstrut setup im seriously confused The gt4 rack doesnt really work i forget the reason but it doesn't All i ever did was swap the struts and linkages and sway bar and control arms (figure 8, banana arm, etc) from the gt4 |
