I was wondering if anyone has used Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires before and if so had an thoughts on them. The surveys on them seem to be great as well as the reviews, just wondering what you guys thought. Im looking to get 225/50/16 for my 7th gen wheels. They seem like they would bite well for my 3s.

The Miata world swears by these.
From Tire Rack, the specs look better than my tires, which offer enough cornering traction. This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Apr 8, 2012 - 11:10 AM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

Fantastic track ready tire. The amount of traction it provides might be overkill for a daily driver imho unless you're making a ridiculous amount of power.
Pros: Excellent dry/wet performance Quiet when new Durable if on a DD car. Mine have ~50,000 miles on them and still has plenty of tread left Cons: Slight drop in gas mileage ~1-2mpg Become noisier/drone as the tread wears down (You can hear them if the radio is off at highway speeds, but road noise usually drowns it out. I don't find it to be intrusive at all) |

cool thanks for the input guys. im trying to find a tire that will bite and these seem to be one of the better options. i can probably live with a slight mpg loss for great traction.

how is it possible to get50,000 miles on a 200utg rated tire, that's an extreme performance summer tire? I have a pair of yoko s drive. I'll probably get 15,000 miles out of them with almost no tread left.
I've had 225/50R16 toyo proxes 4 on tanabe lowering springs. They rubbed the front inside of the wheel wells. nothing biggy but just saying. It would be nice if a company made 225/45R16 tires. Best fitting tires for the 7th gen (6.5 inch wide wheel) is a 205/55R16 This post has been edited by BonzaiCelica: May 8, 2012 - 3:29 PM -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

if your going with such a sticky tire get the new Falken Azenis FT-615K or Kumho Tires Ecsta XS KU-36 in 215/45R16 (are meant to fit 7 inch wide wheels), or yes the 225/45R16 BFGoodrich, but again these are mean to fit 7.5 inch wide wheels. You can go for some Toyo T1R 225/40R16 tires (don't know the tire width fitment??)... so its up to you.

They are fantastic tires. Plain fantastic.
Superb for the track and the street but they wear out on the street fast. I would like to try the Bridgestone Re-11's which are around the same class as the Z1's but their price is quite a bit more. I believe that you are paying for less tread wear. -------------------- ![]() 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

thats a bit disapointing with that tire rub, id rather not have the tires rub the inner part even just that little bit. i didnt want to go to a 45 series tire on the account that i would have more of a wheel gap with my eibach springs.. this is probably a stupid and obvious question but will the 225s not fit on the 7th gen wheel since its a 6.5" rim? i thought that it would still fit in for what ever reason..
i dont want 205s.. might need to get new wheels.. fml lol -------------------- st205 powered ss3 coupe

I highly doubt 225 will fit, I'm running them on a 7" wide tire and they're a bit too bulgey, it'd certainly be worse with an inch less of wheel to sit on.

I'm using Toyo Proxes T1R 225/45/R16, so yes a company makes them in that size. never had rubbing issues...

Just a cautionary note; the Z1's do run wide. So if you pick up a set of 215 series tires, they'll fit more like 225s.
Something else to keep in mind while you are doing your comparisons. -------------------- ~bloodMoney

so in that case im going to get the Z1's in 205/55/16 since they will be more like a 215 then.
ive really considered the BFG kdw2 as well, ive always heard great things about these tires as there wear time is a little better. -------------------- st205 powered ss3 coupe

I liked my azenis because they were inside outside tires and i could actually rotate them and get some extra life outta them.
