I've been wandering why is the 5sfe engine tilted? Does it have to do with the transmission position or what? I'm clueless to why it's tilted. Lol.

Just a matter of making things fit. I know the 5S-FE in the Camry/Solara is titled too.

I read somewhere that it was an effort to bring the weight over the front axles, instead of in front of them

I read somewhere that it was an effort to bring the weight over the front axles, instead of in front of them I would assume with the larger cylinder head( I imagine its taller than the 3sgte head because its narrow angle) and the taller deck height of the block(because it has a longer stroke). It would hit the USDM hood if it were upright. Also, the manifold mounted catalytic converter would hit the radiator |

I do believe I read somewhere that its shifted for weight and if they tilted anymore it would cause drainage issues.. but I'm not sure. if the 3SFE & 5SFE have the same height, then there's no difference in height between FE (narrow-angle valve) & GE (wide-angle valve) heads according to this pic:
it may also have something to do with keeping the hood line lower, which can also bring down the interior dash without compromising outward visibility, seating position can also be dropped, roof line, etc. etc. like it is for the fr-s/brz This post has been edited by azian_advanced: May 7, 2012 - 2:59 PM -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Because they forgot the other 4 cylinders?
No, the correct answer is above, to maintain hood lines and what not, it's a tall engine. The S series do come in cars in a normal 90 deg position, for example in the Altezza where there is ample room. -------------------- |

maybe because it is a tinsy bit bigger look at a 5sfe and the 7afe theres no room infront of the 5sfe if it wasnt titled it would rub into the fans, and the 7afe has alot more room. plus the 5sfe has the bulkier headers . but then again might be for keeping the engine cool.

I always assumed it was tilted to make room for the Turbo and WAIC for the 3SGTE
