Hey, anyone ever tried removing the ball joint from superstrut parts and just replacing with another ball joint of same size??

Dont know which joint you are talking about, but its possible. I once replaced the upper balljoint on my actual strut (the one that holds the steering knuckle up) and it was as easy as having a shop press out the old one, and press in the new one.

I mean like the figure of 8, banana arm ball joint, camber control arm ball joint etc...do they press out like the hub ball joint?

anybody ever tried?

Rumor is that no, they do not split apart from the arms. Although I'm convinced that there has to be a solution out there. I have personally never tried it, but if you could do it and were able to find suitable replacement ball joints you would be my (and everyone else in N/A with an st205) hero.

For all three arms on both sides plus the hub ball joint for both sides, I have gotten quoted between $1,900 and $2,800 for parts only

One of the downsides to having such a rare car.....parts are $$$ and knowledge on quick/cheap fixes is very limited.

Love the car...don't like the price of parts but it is amazing that most parts are still available from Toyota in UK.

Best price I've found is from TCB performance parts in UK. Very nice to deal with and fast shipping. I used to get my shipments through DHL but now they are coming by UPS...blah.

TCB Parts

Last shipment for Toyota original pads front and rear, crush tubes, cap, rotor, belts and various small items was $50 shipping and $25 for brokerage fees.

Yes that is the one i replaced. Aside from being pressed in, it is also held in by a clip. I think i paid 50-70 bucks for it.
Anywho as far as the other ones go, you have to replace the whole arm kindasad.gif

At some point throughout last year, there was a guy on the GT4OC who had made a set (for himself) of new arms and replaceable bushings. Unfortunatly, he didnt mass produce them and the project kinda went away, lost on the forums forever...

seems to me like they have the cheapest prices??

also seems as though springs and strut inserts aren't the same as mcpherson are they??

I too am convinced that you can drill it out and press in a rose bush of the same tapered head and maybe spot weld the edge. By doing so is still cheaper than buying a new fig 8 joint. Just never had the need or chance to try it myself.

Hey all,
i am in need of front lower arms for my celica. My mechanic who works with rally cars and he is a driver of a subaru in rally said that he will custom fix the front lower arms of my car. meaning that he would make some kind or rose joints or something. he said is how they fix their rally cars. i will talk to him again tomorrow to see the plans and i will inform you. it should be quite interesting wink.gif

ive only ever needed the camber control arms replaced, from what i recall theres nothing else to wear out but the ball joint in that, the arm cost the equiv of 2 tanks of gas
