Half way through the 2nd day of this last race my engine started to sputter in the high RPM ranges. 5k+ After service and the engine cooled down it came back to life. About 6 miles into a 10 mile stage the high RPMs started sputtering again.

Then it kept getting worse because I had two 12 miles stages right after that.

As of right now, the car will not idle, if I give it gas the car runs fine even into the higher RPMs until it heats up. I thought it might be spark, but i'm getting spark at least just checking it in my garage.

I also did a compression test and the numbers are good 190/180/180/180

The engine is a 3sge.

Hmm.... vacuum might explain it. Obviously explains the idle, but wouldnt explain the upper RPM range, until I remembered that the 3sge VVT system is activated by vacuum.

I'll have to go over all the vacuum lines tomorrow.

Shouldn't be VVT in a 3rd gen 3SGE; just ACIS.

Beams has the VVT - no? I'm out of er right now too.

Yeah the ACIS is what I meant.

No vacuum leak. The more I think about it the idle would go up not down.

Welp.... I just gave the idle screw on the throttle body as good as new.... although something is lurking.

It's also revving fine over 5k now, but I only had the problems after hammering on the engine for like 5 miles straight...
