Every now and than, (alot more frequent lately), whenever i lock my car, the alarm will go off.

It doesn't happen every time, and i don't notice myself doing anything different in the times that it does.

Its the standard alarm, with the factory key-fob.

Any ideas on what the problem is, how i can fix it, or stop it?

It gets a little embarassing with it going off all the time in shopping centers.

Is is the alarm (like when you push and hold the lock/unlock button for like 5 sec)? or that annoying beeping that goes off if you have a door open and try to lock it?
I know with my passenger door, it takes about 20 sec to register as being shut so if i try to lock the car before then it just beeps for 20 sec then it stops when it registers that the door is shut.

Nah its the alarm. Same as when you use the "Panic" (holding it for 3 seconds).
It locks, than the alarm goes off. i think hit lock again to stop it, than lock again to lock it. :S

Is the button on the fob sticking down? just activating the panic function when you press it?

Gday Mate,

Have you checked you door switches to see if they dont have a ground fault, ie not giving a good enough signal to tell the alarm module that all doors are shut. Both doors, boot and most bonnets all have a micro switch.

best way to test, sit in the car then lock it with your keyfob. do the interior lights turn off when this happens? (pretty sure factory set up turns the interior lights off as soon as all doors and boot is shut, the bonnet doesnt come into the equation here)

if the interior lightdoes turn off, and everytime, test this at least ten times... if this is all good, pop the bonnet and on the firewall right hand side (drivers side for the jap/eur/aus market) there will be a black switch about the size of a match box. unplug it and see if the problem is still there after a few days.

Cheers man. With the black switch, is it a unplug, wait and reply it back in? Or leave it unplugged. Whats this doing?

It only happened every now and then, and I'm sure all The lights go off. I'm thinking the key fob could be spazzing out. I've been real careful when pressing it lately, and waiting a good 10 seconds before I do lock it and no problems. But I still think it will every time.

It's not the beeping like the bonnet/door isn't closed. I lock the car (it does lock) I see my alarm led come on than within that second te alarm goes off. I than have to lock it again to stop it, than lock again to enable the alarm.

Just leave it unpluged. by doing this, it will take the bonnet open switch out of the equation. (so if the bonnet is openned whilst the alarm is active the alarm wont trigger, But in saying that, ive never heard of anyone being able to do this without setting off the vibration sensor first!!)

And yes after reading your last little bit; it most likly sounds like it is your bonnet trigger playingup.

Let us know how you go mate....

^ Thanks for the advice. This worked for a few days, but back to square one again. Still doing it.

I'm thinking it could possibly be my battery? or alternator?
I unlocked the car today, had the boot open for 5 minutes, closed and locked it, alarm went off.

Any other ideas?

mine did the same before it died on me. Except sometimes it wouldn't shut off and i'd have to start my car and turn it off to make it stop. it did that for a while and then finally one day just stopped working. I thought the batteries died, replaced the batteries and still nothing. Probably just gonna go aftermarket.

Ok so how about this.

Is there a way that i can disable the siren.
so, it still beeps when i lock/unlock... and if it were to get broken into, the immoboliser wouldnt let it start?

I'll probably replace my battery, as every time it does go off, when i try start it, it struggles.

Sorry mate, been away... Umm, the only way it would be the battery if itwere the back upbattery for the alarm module it self, and being a factory alarm, pretty sure they didnt come out with a back up power source. Alternator, again no, if iit was youd have bigger things to worrie about over an alarm issue. try eliminating the closed boot switch, not sure exsactly where it is (i dont have a 6 Gen anymore, have 5 Gen GT4 now) but pretty sureit will be in the latch mech , if you pull off the plastic cover, you should see a couple of wires going into the latch mech, unplug it and then see how it goes, use the same technique as what you did with the hood.

Let us know how you go mate...

An anfter market alarm is always something that id reckomend for basic electric boards can tend to play up with age, and being in a car, vibration, dust, humitity, temp, etc will deteiorate the life span soo much quicker then most other places! but if yolu can still lock and unlock the car and still have the siren go ff signals that it still should be ok.

(but in saying that a cheap alarm off ebay can come in less then $50 AUD which is just so effin cheap!! yes the more you spend the better the feature get and most people will say "aw nah my baby needs nothing but the best! And needs to be install by some fella that works at Queen Street, because hes down 20 installs into 20 show cars and none have been stolen..." No one in the real world drives a show car daily... Pretty much Rubbish! it all comes down to how well the module is install.

Behind the instrument cluster, under the rear seat, in the boot behind side kick panels all work well and even run hidden control relays on top of the gear box, under the car next to the fuel tank and/or in the rear drivers side door (thats right whod ever look there for either and arlarm module or a fuel pump control relay!!!)

And yes there are ways to disable your siren, but by doing that all your doing is hidding the issue. if you want to go down that path youd just rip out the alarm/central locking moudle and go back to using the key everytime you approached your "cilly car"

Good luck and let us know how you go

I tried the hood switch, and it still went off. I needed a new battery anyway do I've gone ahead an replaced that, I'll see how this goes and will probably have to consider a new alarm maybe.

I replaced the battery a while ago, and that's worked since than. But another problem, which could be a progression of this.

I have gotten out of the car, and went to lock it, it doesn't beep, than I lost all power.
Today I came to the car when it was locked, my alarm light was flashing, when I hit unlock, I lost power.

A small fix was to wiggle the wires to the battery, but in there looks all okay, don't know what else.
When I got in the car after using the key to get in, I had full power :s

I recently added another amp to my car, but I don't think that's the problem.

Time for aftermarket? Or since the arming/disarming to shorting out power, it's something else?
