So i took my alternator from my 94 gt to pepboys because it was giving me problems. Diagnosis was it works too good. It was overcharging and heating up real bad. So cutting to the chase, 6gcs are rare in puerto rico, but the 5sfe powered camry is everywhere! Can i just take the alternator of one and call it a day?

according to replacement part numbers, no its not interchangeable, the only physical difference i see is the location of the hot wire. it appears to be the same mounting but they aren't listed as cross-referenceable parts, it does look like it would fit though and uses the same 3 prong electrical connector as the celica's. i guess you can grab one and check

Thanks man, it doesn't seem like much of a difference seeing how they are both the same engine, unless someone says otherwise, i'll try it.

bring your old one, compare it side by side, check the mounting areas, double check the connectors, and compare the amp rating.

according to replacement part numbers, no its not interchangeable, the only physical difference i see is the location of the hot wire. it appears to be the same mounting but they aren't listed as cross-referenceable parts, it does look like it would fit though and uses the same 3 prong electrical connector as the celica's. i guess you can grab one and check this is all true, I put a 5sfe camry alternator on my Celica a few years back because I did an engine swap in a camry and have a ton of extra parts from it. The hot wire will bump the padding in the hood when the hood closes and eventually rub through, arcing on the hood. You can partially disassemble the camry alternator and mix it with your old celica alternator. The positive power post on the alternator is part of a solid copper piece that has 3 or 4 studs sticking through it beneath the thin cover, so it has no electronic parts inside of it. Take the one off of your celica alternator and mix it with the camry one. If the thin shell off of your celica alternator doesn't mate up with the camry alternator then you will have to cut holes in the camry alts tin housing so that the post will fit through. JUST MAKE SURE that the thin housing on the alternator doesn't touch any of the copper. And yes the pinout is the same between the camry, celica, and most of the alternators that Toyota uses.
