Ok, this afternoon i swapped my green lights to some amber LED guage lights, and now for some reason, parts of the tach, speedo, and such are MUCH brighter than other parts- particularily the 4 and 8 on the tach, 40 on the speedo, and the fuel guage seems to be really dim. how do i fix this- ive swapped lights at least 4 times now and have never ran into this problem before- help please! (ps the amber led's look great if it werent for this).....

The problem is probably that you're using LEDs. Try using regular bulbs, and the light should reflect much better.

wide angle led's or inverted led's might help if led's are what u want to use.

Have you tried them before? I've tried two different types of LEDs, and I've had troubles with both of them. If you look at the rear of the gauge cluster, you can see that there are clear plastic prism sort of pieces that reflect the light. Using an LED bulb reflects light differently than a regular bulb, and that's what causes the problems. For comparison, here is my gauge cluster with LEDs: Here it is with regular bulbs:

No, but I was told they work better. I'm using Red Xenon 194's.

I'm using inverted LED's and while they are better than normal LED's they don't come close to the even brightness of bulbs
I've tried painting the bulbs with bulb laquer - but the colour was too greeny, and i've tried LED's, neither work properly. With LED's the light is good at some spots, and while you can see all of the dials light up - when you pass another car, and your night vision goes, then you can't see the duller bits. Next plan, painting normal bulbs with normal blue paint! Let you know how it works, and how long the colour lasts for. Shortty This post has been edited by Shortty: Feb 20, 2004 - 4:09 PM |
