Guys, I hate to make another post, but I'm trying to get this timing done.

I'm pretty sure I have it right, but I'm also being a bit paranoid.

My cams do not have the mark on them to line them up..why I have no idea...

On the pulley themselves they have a dot on one of the spokes, and I've referenced other pictures i've taken before I removed the belt, and seen couple online to see where things have lined up, and it appears spot on...I just don't understand why mine do not have the cam marks to match to the head. Hard to eye ball the spoke dot, with the head grove....

I've ran my finger around the cam, and went face first with a LED light..there is no mark on the cams.

Any ideas?

I ran into the same thing. The fsm says the camshafts should be notched so you know how to align things. But its not. Still working on that O.o

Only dimple I'm seeing, is on one of the spokes of the cam pulley. Inside and outside of the spoke, same spoke.

Nothing on the gears themselves.

Just double checked, found some other pics online of the USDM 3s with its marks, but it doesn't have those either.

From what I'm reading on a few walkthroughs, as long as the dimple on the spoke lines up with the grove that is on the valve cover plate that the timing cover attaches too, its TDC...anyone confirm?

like this

How I have it.

No marks =/

i believe the cam gear has a small hole that you line up with a mark on the hard cover that mounted to the block.

Yea I think you are right, lines up with the dimple on the pulley. Only logical thing left..glad I didn't take the pulleys off..

The 5sfe has a small hole in the pulley that is supposed to line up with a notch on the bearing cap. It at the highest point of the bearing cap, and you need a flashlight and mirror to see it on the GTs.

I believe the 7a had an E or I that had to be lined up with a mark, but im not certain.

Dunno if yalls engine is similar, hope this helps.

Yes that is correct. Just be sure to spin the crank around a few times after you set it to make sure its still correctly set.

Yea i'm pretty positive its based off the pulley dimple, or hole then referenced to the timing cover plate that has some groves set in it. I had that part taken off with my valve cover, so there was really no way of knowing because the cams aren't marked like it stated in the repair manual. Kind of odd.
