It sounds like the syncronyzers. Drain your transmission and refill with exactly 2.6 quarts of Pennzoil Syncromesh Transmission Fluid. Double check your capacity but if you are a couble tenths of a quart/liter overfilled or underfilled then the transmission will have difficulty going into gear.
Hope this helps |

i'm having issues. I just replaced my car with a 11.4 pound flywheel, southbend pressure plate and clutch disc along with an oem throw out bearing. I also replaced the master and slave cylinder. Only put 2,600 miles on the car since. And have babied the car since the install.
I can shift into every gear just fine while the car is off without me pushing the clutch pedal. When the car is on and I push the clutch pedal to put it into first it won't go in at all even reverse is basically impossible. Once I eventually get it into first after like 10 try's and fiddling around, it'll shift into 2nd-5th no problem as long as your keeping the revs under 3,000 rpm. the main shifter cable looks like so. but I doubt this has to do with the problem right??? This sounds like the problem I am having also? But let me ask u is it hard to put it into any gear? While the car is fully stopped but the car is on? And then once u drive and get it moving it starts shifting normal? Because that's my problem

Because that's my problem yes, its hard to put into any gear while the car is stopped. when the car is stopped and still on it only wants to go into 1st gears. and has a real spongy feel on the shifter. once I get moving its fairly easy to get into other gears -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

Honestly I changed the tranny fluid the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder put new fluid and bleeded the system and I'm still having the same issue... My linkage makes a noise when I grab tw shifter and swing it left and right while it's in neutral while the car is off try that it could be that problem I'm not sure my self yet. And it seems like no 1 has the answer my cluth doesn't slip or shatter so idk what todo honestly

I don't have a spong feeling clutch either, and clutch pedal disgengagement from 1st gear seems just fine. I'll take it to a shop for them to diagnose it. I hope I don't need a new disc or pp. -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

Could be loose, frayed cable like Bonzai...clips could be missing. -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

Had the same anoying problem that persisted even after changing the transmission before finding out its the cable. My cable was not as bad as above, just some missing plastic cover here and thre but it was enough that when you try changing gears, it would form a loop instead. The cable cost $$, like 400 new from toyota. But once l changed mine problem disappeared.
Hope this helps. -------------------- 3sgteing.

currently have a 95 camry s54 transmission cable. Hoping that 97 camry from the junkyard is still there, it also has a s54 transmission. I'll pull that one too see what the difference in cable length is.
the current s54 cable from the 95 camry is 52 inches. anybody have the length of a 94-99 celica s54 cable I'm talking about the longer shifter cable that attaches to the base of the stickshift. -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

"Round numbers" means it's close enough because I didn't have the cables perfectly straight, but they were close enough.
They can't gain more than an inch, the way I had them laying. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Even Socrates told us to use the search button!

sorry for sounding real paranoid I just don't have very good form of transportation except my celica at the moment. shouldn't the cable on the left (the one that attaches to the base of the shifter stick) be longer than the one on the right?? by like 2 inches?
also my clutch doesn't slip either I gave it wot in 1st gear to 4,500 revs and no slippage at all. This post has been edited by BonzaiCelica: Aug 24, 2012 - 1:58 AM -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

From driving exp I was sure that it's not the transmission I knew its something with cables or shifter linkage cuz I had tranny problems in other cars I know how they work but anyways is there a way to find these cables cheaper than 400 dollars? start making your trips to the junkyards. also for me, example : lets say I'm driving in 3rd gear at 35mph and press the clutch pedal, the clutch will do its job and disengage the power being fed from the transmission to the engine so that I am no longer able to get power to the wheels. also found this. my guess is that my disc or pp is gone. makes no sense cause my hybrid disc is made with exedy parts. darn I shoulda went with oem beams pp and the 5s stock disc. but at $280 for beams pp thats a lot. http://forums.evolutionm.net/drivetrain/33...ts-running.html This post has been edited by BonzaiCelica: Aug 24, 2012 - 11:18 AM -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts
