So I am in a bit of a pickle with my 6gc.
Back in highschool I changed out some of the lighting for LEDs, added footwells, thought I was cool, yada yada. Somewhere along the line I must have messed up pretty damn good, because right now I don't have courtesy lights, a trunk light, the clock, and my dome will randomly display a faint glow from the LED I tossed in there, but that happens infrequently. I checked the fuses for the dome and trunk and it all appears to be fine. I've even replaced them just in case. I've also checked the actual bulbs/LEDs and replaced them with ones I knew to be working and am not getting anything. Checked with a multimeter and am getting no voltage or amperage across the terminals. For what it's worth. Climate Control unit is working fine, cig lighter is working fine, dashboard is working fine, head/tail/turns are working fine. Its just the courtesy, trunk, dome, and clock that are out. Anyone have any ideas? I would love to get my old girl back in tip-top shape. Thanks! This post has been edited by deathsythe: Sep 5, 2012 - 1:21 PM |

Well what did you use as ur power supply? Did you just use the wiring for the dome couresy and trunk lights? Or did u wire in some special led's? I had leds in my footwell I rann off of my cig lighter to a switch and they stopped working because me being the rookie solderer I am the solder came off.

Nothing is coming off the dome, courtesy, or trunk lights.
Everything is off the cig lighter, and I've had no problems with them. |

Sorry i have to ask did you check your fuses? I think most of them run off the same fuse.

I checked all of the fuses, Dome is on its own, I know that for sure, and from what I saw nothing in the box under the hood or the one under my dash had anything blown. I mean, it could be the proprietary toyoto multi-fuse things, but I can't see in them to check them, nor do I even know which one is for what. What fuse do you think it might be? |

check your grounds, and the wiring, couuld have finally came disconnected to what you wired it. Also if your running it all on the cig connector, you might have blown that fuse.

Unlikely - everything I installed works just fine, and the fuse isn't blown to the cig lighter because she still works fine (charge my phone/gps every day in her)
The wiring should be pretty solid, I did wiring on aircraft for a few years, I think I've got it down |

Loose connection? Since they faintly glow at times Im inclined to believe that there is a poor connection somewhere in there.

If that's the case it doesn't have anything to do with the wiring I did. The dome (which does what I described there) was a simple bulb swap. Nothing stupid or silly about it. |

You said your not getting voltage across the terminals? Well what's the voltage before the positive in on the light? It sounds like an open circuit problem because if it was ground you would have voltage up to the light and beyond because it's never completing the circuit.
Edit. Also like special edy said it could be a connection if it's illuminating sometimes and sometimes not or faint glow because the loose connection would have very high resistance. This post has been edited by matts94celica: Sep 13, 2012 - 8:56 PM -------------------- |
