Hello,
I've been away from the site for a while, being busy with work & school, but I'm back with some more questions for you all. I recently bought a 93 non-turbo MR2 transmission to put into my 94 GT & was hoping if anyone had the how-to on changing the shift linkage? I believe I saw it on here a while back, but I've searched & searched, but no luck. If I'm not mistaken, the non-turbo transmission from the MR2 is the same exact tranny from our 5SFE's, except for the shift linkage. I saw some threads about the e153 LSD transmission, but they didn't go into detail about reversing the shift linkage, they were talking mostly about the axles & what not. If anyone has any info on this, it would be greatly appreciated. I really want to get this done as soon as possible, as my car is sitting on the lift right now waiting for the next tranny. -Thank you for your time, Ryan EDIT: Just clarifying that it's the NON TURBO, NON LSD transmission I bought. Ok, I've done a little more searching & still haven't found the how-to, but I think I might have found some useful information. I read on another thread that I'll need a shift linkage from a Camry or Solara if I want the MR2 transmission to work. Is this information true?
-Thanks, Ryan |

For the e153, that would be true, but for the s54, I don't think it is. You probably need that stuff from a celica s54.

I still have my S54 from my Celica & the shift linkage fits in, but there is an opening on the other end where on my Celica tranny, it would fit snug. But on the MR2 tanny, there's nothing for it to fit snug into, there's just an opening. And I can't leave it like that, cause the linkage needs to be stable to shift AND I can't have an opening on my tranny. I ll see if I could take pics today. -Ryan |

Okay take everything I say with a grain of salt, but with the 153E the shifter linkage is backwards on the MR2. Obviously because its mid engined rwd instead of front engine fwd the shifter linkage is coming at the tranny from the opposite direction. So I believe on the 153E you must machine down the case to accept FWD linkage. I would assume the S54 would be a similar but situation thats your risk. There might be a combination of longer cables that would work as well but having never done the swap Im only going on what Ive read.

this is a similar situation for installing a 6 speed on the 7th gen from a corolla or matrix. the linkage is on the wrong side. I call it serious modification needs to be done to the case to change the linkage over.
im sorry im not familiar enough with this. i would have just bought an E153 from a Camry or Solara. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

Ok, many thanks for the info anyways, guys. I guess buying this tranny was a lost cause. I'll see if I can work something out. Appreciate all the input from everyone. -Thanks for your time, Ryan |

I remember there was a post about how you have to drill out the other side of the tranny where the shift linkage latches onto and rotate it from the front to the back in order to make it work for the FF. Been a while. Here try this. http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/tech-conv...sw20-st162.html

I haven't decided if I would want to take on that venture as yet, being that transmissions really aren't my thing. I appreciate all the research & input from everyone, hopefully it doesn't go to waste. -Thanks again, Ryan. |

Ive done it. i just took the linkage from the e154f (gt4) tranny and installed them in the e153 tranny. it is easy. the only hard part was to tap the wholes straight on the other side of the e153 to mount the linkage. if you live in davie you could come by and see it in person if you want.

Hey, Diego. Not sure if you remember me, but I bought your fender off of you about a year back. I think I might be getting a deal on another Celica tranny. Will contact you if I need anymore assistance. -Thanks, Ryan |
