why don't you want anything past 180k? bought mine at just over 200k and I'm now at 240k and still running strong.
the auto transmission was in there up until, not this past spring, but the one before that. It was holding up fine, but I just wanted a standard haha

yeah she is, I mean I beat on her by going off road sometimes to rally down some trails, and get on it on the road, but the engine holds up. Just regular maintenance and it'll last.

its good to get one with low mileage but you better get ready to pay a lot for it.

Indeed, mine has 190,000 miles and still going. Yes, stay away from the autos. 110-135hp is bad enough with a manual, let alone an automatic. Every now and then you'll see a low mileage 6th gen, around 50,000 miles or so. Expect to pay around $6,000 for such an example though. The Toyota engines are fairly stout and are non-interference, so not too much to go wrong. Only thing that comes to mind is the 7A-FE being notorious for its oil rings sticking.

if you like wrenching go for the high miles

if you have a cheap mechanic go for the high miles

if you want peace of mind, 120 - 160 is ok but the price may not be cheap.

a manual car ---- clutch. it will go out soon, thats the reason they sell them sometimes ( it happened to me at 134 k)

low mileage celicas are almost impossible to find.

look in the hatch area, on the wheel wells for rust issues.

look under the doors for rust issues

compare both tires (make sure they are centered) otherwise bent arms

spare wheel well, look for rust.

headlights look for condensation and water

radiator, if its too brown, may be prone to crack and need a new one.

sunroof, leaking problems

struts ( see if it bounces to much) otherwise need to replace.

check for bad wearing of tires, to check for alignment issues.

just like you would do to buy any car.

now if you want to get crazy!!!

check for compression.

remember, high miles does not always mean problems, but its like the lottery ticket. why buy a car that can potentially be in the garage 3 weeks of the month..

keep looking, youll find one.

It's not worth the meager power gain for the atrocious drop in efficiency.
