Need some advice. I have a 95 gt 5sfe 5 speed celica. It will start an d drive down the road a few miles then it straight up dies. After it dies it wont fire up again till it sits for a short amount of time (about an hour). I pulled the codes and got a code 12, 13, and 14. Tested the primary resistance on the coil and found it was too high. Replaced coil, cap, rotor, wires, and spark plugs and I'm still having the same problem. Any advice?

My cars going through the same problem;( The only thing i have left to replace is the ignition control module. Ive got the code 14 showing which i found out through the engine maintenance forum meant "IGF signal from igniter is not input to ECU for 4 consecutive ignitions" and the possible causes were: a short in the IGF or IGT from igniter to ecu, the Igniter, or the ecu...

Ive got all new wires, distributor, plugs and Ill be getting the igniter hopefully Tuesday so ill find out if thats whats the cause. i can get my car to start up and run occasionally for a few minutes til she warms up abit and then will only turn over and sputter like its flooded or something... is that the same with your car??

Mine will run fine for a couple of days in between problems. When it does act up, I can hear the starter attempting to start the engine but it doesn't fire up and the tach drops right before the engine dies while driving down the road. Ive already replaced the coil (igniter) I have been told that the ECM may be going bad but I don't know how to test it.

hmm from what my dad says you cant really self test an ecu, iirc he said you need some sort of tester box that connects between the ecu and the wiring harness or something like that... its kind of unsettling that after you replaced your igniter and still have the problem though. i started out with the occasional stalling while driving issue and then it went away for abit, but now its on full force. hope you figure your problem out quick man im definitely following this lol

Check this thread out. It sounds similar to what you have going on:http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=87295&hl=
My experience was just with a code 12, not the other two. In my case, the copper wiring inside the distributor had unraveled itself and took out the coil also. You probably would have noticed this when replacing your coil, however.

I was mistaken in my last post. I have replaced the coil not the igniter. I ordered a new IGM. Tomorrow I'll put it on and see where I'm at. I have already tested the rest of the ignition system. I don't know a way to test the ICM, but everything else has checked out.

Installed the ICM and it didn't fix my problem. I finally decided to take it to a local shop that has a oscilloscope for a full diagnosis. Let you know what I find out.

Turned out that the ignition circuit in the ECU went bad.

Dang looks like I've more than likely got the same problem then... I put my igniter in yesterday with no luck =|

Good luck finding an ECU. I haven't found one yet so I went and bought another 95 Celica identical to mine and I'm using my black one now as a parts car. Ive been told that Autozone can send them off to be rebuilt.

Yeah I haven't found one either, my cars running for the most part though I just have to let it warm up to operating temp before I move it anywhere and if I stall out it takes a random amount of key turns to get back on its legs... But it's good to hear you've at least got another celi to tinker with, I'd like to go that route but bills are kicking my @#$ lol

Dont buy an autozone one, I worked there for a year and every single ECU we sold got returned.

Someone on the forums should be able to source one for you. I would check the harness for loose connections first.
