I plastidipped an entire miata gunmetal. I used their new wagner sprayer and 3 gallon kit. Super easy to spray. 3 gallons is just enough to probably do 5 coats maybe 6 on a celica Only took 4 hours total Doing a Porsche next BLASPHEMY!!! -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

How well does it hide imperfections? I'm also thinking of dipping my car but have a bunch of peeling clear coat and bubble rust (which I would obviously sand down first).
Don't want to get into it if that stuff will affect how well the dip applies |

Well got my kit from dipyourcar.com
I'm going to be honest here I'm not to pleased with their service. It took nearly 3 weeks to get 2 gallons & sprayer. They made no indication, or notification of such back order, while already charging my card. On top of that, the sprayer is not what they advertised. It is a cheaper brand. I paid 240 for this kit. The sprayer sells retail for 140...so I paid about 50 dollars a gallon, where they sell it on their site for less. I understand the need to make a profit, but I would prefer they sell what they advertise. Be it would be a large frustration, and shipping costs to get it correct. I will simply bite this small bullet and move forward with the project..and remember their service. |

Drop a steamer in the box, then mail it without postage...it should go to the return address.

So I used the kit today, and I would like to retract my previous negative comment.
There were more items in the sprayer box that made up for my previous gripe. The kit worked well, and the sprayer was 5yr simple to use. Paint looks great from what I can see. I barely taped things off, just sprayed a good 5 coats, and peeled away the excess. Will post pics tomorrow when the sun is shining This post has been edited by rave2n: Nov 11, 2012 - 8:49 PM |

Also I read on the plastidip forums the reason you didn't get the wagner sprayer was because of complaints their Authorized Installers had about the fronts of the wagner sprayers leaking.. So win / win. And pics will make it triple WIN -------------------- 6gcHeroes:808hectortimmybatmandiegotigamak |

Really easy to do. I pulled the excess off last night. Sprayed right over the windows (taped center off on large rear & front), rear lights, and markers. Came off easy as could be. I like it..but now my rim color needs to be updated. Almost to black! This post has been edited by rave2n: Nov 12, 2012 - 8:52 AM |

Whats with the big run on the hood? That white run is from when I sanded the whole vehicle then washed it afterwards. I didn't clean the hood because it wasn't getting painted. Will need to wash the car to remove it, but want to let the new paint cure. I painted it previously with rattle can plastidip and discovered it was not possible to get a clean spray for such a large surface area. That being why I ordered the spray kit for the rest of the vehicle. The hood it self will be modified in the future to fit in the 3sgte TMIC so I wasn't eagerly jumping to peel and respray it. I actually don't think I would have enough paint to do the hood with the small kit. Front bumper, will also be swapped for a 96+ so that also didn't get a new spray, just the same rattle can as the hood for now. Comments from co-workers today - "why does you car look like a chalkboard now?" "Oh I thought that was just primer!" "Are you done?" No appreciation in that dept. |

The point of dipping is to not have to sand. Don't mean to sound condescending but don't tell me you sanded the whole car o.O

Don't mean to sound condescending but don't tell me you sanded the whole car o.O There were so many places where the clear was chipping off in large pieces, and showing bubbles under. There was no option but to sand it down. I didn't take it to the metal, just a nice smooth surface. Not to mention the tons of primer and bondo applications before myself that had to be somewhat fixed on the rear areas. Only took me 2 hours to sand it =P |

Oh well if that's the case I forgive you xD
You should dip over the sidemarkers on the fenders, and you definitely need bigger/wider wheels to pull off the "murdered out" look, but it came out pretty well for the first try. How's the gun? -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

How's the gun? Yea the sidemarkers were dipped over but I peeled it away. They are getting shaved anyway when I get around to buying new fenders. This was mainly done to ease my mind because how it looked was frustrating me daily. Alot of plans in play, just I get everything done in spurts =p I've never used a sprayer like that before so I cannot comment on how it performed based on others, but considering I have 0 time spent working with such guns it came out real well. It was really easy to use. I just watched a few videos and went at it. My only issue with the sprayer is, I wish it had a longer hose going to the vac unit. Sometimes it became a pain to move while dropping a even spray. All in all, I'm happy with the results. Agreed on spacers, been wanting them. I plan to get those when I get new tires, alignment etc etc. Some ways down the road as its a lower priority compared to other issues /projects This post has been edited by rave2n: Nov 14, 2012 - 8:31 AM |

Looks good bro. How long did you have to wait between the coats and do you have to worry about overspray? Thinking about doing it in my driveway. Want to do mine soon. Just gotta do some repairs first. Too much money to get it painted, so maybe a good alternate. Mine is white, wanna keep mine white and spray the plastidip clear over it. Ah that is the glory of this paint. It is so forgiving. By the time I got to the other side of the car, it was ready for another coat at the start. It only took me maybe 1 hour and 15 minutes to put on 5 coats. On the overspray, I only taped the front and rear windshield in the center area to not waste paint. Then I just sprayed everything, side windows, mirrors and lights. Then just peeled it off after 20 minutes from the final coat. I'm sure the paint will last, but even if it didn't, it is such a stupid simple job with quick pleasing results I wouldn't mind doing it again. |
