Yes, it has a small, plutonium based, nuclear reactor that creates the 1.21 gigawatts needed to power the machine.

I think what happened is he wanted an electric car, but didn't want to deal with ugly cars and cheap interior. So he decided to make his own from the 6GC.

I just jumped to the final video (Part 11), and it moves fast enough. Says he's taken it on 80 mile round trips down the highway, and could go further still. The steering is powered by a DC hydraulic pump, and he can turn it off while driving on the highway (straight line).

I remembered passing by a few Ford Focus cars at a dealership recently, and one was electric. I looked it up after seeing the electric Celica video, and the gas-powered Focus ST does 153mph according to Car and Driver! My Celica is is a slug when compared to that! biggrin.gif

Ok,. so that was a cool one, but there wasn't enough detail.

Here is a link to John Allen's 6th Gen,. it's a coupe, so still only so cool, but he has a write up and tons of videos of it, and the components.

John Allens Toyota Celica EV

Video of some Components

Here is a nice comparison he's done of the value of the EV conversion...

Gas Car
How many gal of gas at $4/gal
240,000 miles @ 30 miles/gal= 8000 gals
8000 x $4= $32,000
How many oil changes @ 1 every 3000 miles
240,000/3000 = 80 oil changes
80 x $30 = $2,400
Total cost of gas and oil changes for 240,000 miles is $34,400

EV
How many KwHr per charge
48 x 3.4volts x 180 Amp Hours = 29.376
29.376 kwh x $0.11/kwh =$3.23/charge cycle for 100 miles
240,000/100 x 3.23= $7,752 electricity for 240,000 miles
cost of replacing batteries after 240,000 miles $11,000
Total cost of batteries and electric to charge them for 240,000 miles is $18,752

I remember seeing some videos a while back of people making conversion kits for most any type of vehicle, but they are still using lead-acid batteries.

yet this illustrates that it is possible. the good batteries and the frequency drive they use would be the hard part.
