I have the 8 speaker sound system in my 95 gt convert and my front bottom speakers do not work but the other 6 do. Anybody have any experience with this system or problem?

The amp under the driver seat is probably dead.

Sadly, junkyards are pretty much the only source these days. Replacing with an aftermarket amplifier requires additional wiring work.
I'd suggest trying car-part.com, it's the web access to an inventory software used by hundreds of yards around the U.S. and Canada. |

Figuered id post here instead of making another thread.
I also have the 8 speaker system. Swapped out my oem head unit for a new one and all my speakers work except for the bottom 2. I used a wiring harness that included 2 plugs and installed them into the 2 blue plugs that where in the bottom of the amp that is under the hvac. Not sure if it matters but i also disconnected the 3 plugs that where connected into that same amp. Those 3 plugs are the plugs ontop of the the 2 blue plugs i used with the harness. Not sure if i did anything wrong or am i missing something here? |

I'm 99% sure that if you use an aftermarket head unit with the 8" speaker system, you either have to use the integration kit that bypasses the built-in preamp in your new headunit and thusly utilizes the factory amps, or you have to get an aftermarket amp to power the lower speakers.
Integration wiring harness: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PREMIUM-SOUND-SYST...5c8&vxp=mtr You do however need an aftermarket headunit with at least 2 sets of preamp outputs and these harnesses usually don't have a ground connection so you'll have to physically ground your headunit from the ground wire coming off of the headunit to the chassis. I had the option to do that. I had both harnesses in hand before the installation but decided to go the other way since i assume the preamp in most headunits now and days are better off the the oem amps that came these cars? So say everything is wired properly behind the hu and the only thing making the front speakers not work is the amp. Is there any way splice and connect the input and output wires in the connection that goes into the amp? This way it bypasses this amp and just runs straight off the new hu. |

^The preamp inside your new HU is most likely more powerful than the stock one, but it is not powerful enough nor is it set up to handle the extra speakers. Thus the reason JBL designed for those lower speakers to be powered by a separate amp.
If you don't want to use the factory amps, then your best option is to just get a decent low power aftermarket amp to power those lower door speakers. Like the JBL GT5-A402 2-channel amp. -------------------- 99 Celica GT-S

Yes, you can splice into the 8" speakers in the kick panels. I'll get you a picture this afternoon. |

Actually, i wanted to avoid the use of any amp all together. Didnt want to go through the hassle of running wires through out the car. ^The preamp inside your new HU is most likely more powerful than the stock one, but it is not powerful enough nor is it set up to handle the extra speakers. I'm not sure what the color is on the passenger side because I didnt grab that side at the salvage yard(I just ran 2 new wires). To splice into them I cut the insulation off a section and soldered a wire onto it, but there are some cheap clip connectors you can buy at the parts store that dont require any tools and wont sever the original wire. All of this is located under the driverside kick panel, the passengerside should be similar. |

I was thinking more on splicing the input and output cables that are in the plug that goes into the amp under the driver seat.

that works too.. and this should help you identify which wire is which on the plug.
