I have a 95 st and it is now running very rough and misfiring. it won't go about 3000rpm as the ecu cuts the fuel. I have a check engine light, but when I short the e1 and te1 pins nothing happens. Is there another way to get the code?

do you turn the key to the on position when you do this?

Te to e1 is what you are supposed to jumper, so it should be working for you

Yeah I'm sure they are the correct terminals. I even tried directly on the ecu to rule out any wiring issues and still get the same result. So I think my ecu is shot frown.gif

Maybe she'll give it up after dinner and a movie?

Try TE2 and E1. TE2 is the advanced diagnostic port.

Haha I wish that's all it took! I tried TE2 and E1 still no dice, just a solid check engine light.

Code scanner. Advanced Auto Parts and/or Autozone does free scanning.

I took my car to AutoZone to get a free scan and they said they don't do it no more. At least the ones in Cali don't do it no more. I don't know about other states and stores.

I figured I would post and update in case this happens to anyone else. After replacing my ecu the car runs great. No CEL and no misfiring nothing.

So long story short, if your pre96 celica throws a CEL and you can't retrieve it and all the sensor and voltages check out at the ecu, then it's time to replace the ecu.
