Mine resonates inside the car quite a bit around 70-75, but isn't bad other than that. It's louder than I would like but that's because I'm too silent-oriented. It's louder at idle and low speed cruising than simply replacing the stock muffler, but I really don't have anything else to compare it to as I went straight from a completely stock setup to 2.5" piping with a cat, Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator, and Street Power muffler. I'll try to get a video Sunday of how it sounds. Keep in mind that I also have a BEAMS, so tone will be different compared to a 5S.

Finally snapped a couple of pictures of the Vibrant muffler and a sound clip. The muffler is filthy... I gave the car a quick wash today but didn't think to clean the muffler. It's an actual flat black, not a murky black like my pictures show.

Sound clips, using a point and shoot/shaky hands: (my bad tongue.gif )

http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee257/r...ent=file-21.mp4

The car is louder and deeper than the video depicts, but not a lot louder. Definitely a good bit deeper. Since it's a 2 liter high compression BEAMS, you can imagine that the 5S would sound a bit deeper.

Vibrant Performance Ultra Quiet resonator and a Vibrant Performance straight through:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VA9HBiZAMg...mp;feature=plcp

Clean, deep, sound. (don't mind the ****ty camera crackle)

The exhaust is only loud when you step on it, the way a true performance exhaust setup should be, and doesn't resonate inside at all. It impressed my VW friend so much that he was tempted to buy a vibrant setup for his Diesel Jetta. We both thought it was going to be obnoxious and loud as ****, but not at all! Sounds amazing when you're blasting through tunnels with the windows and sunroof open tongue.gif

Do it. smile.gif We were taking it pretty easy on the car in that video. We grabbed another video where I got on it more but we decided not to post it just to adhere to the forum rules. Plus I ran out of parking lot both ways...

I have basically the same exhaust setup you do but with a Magnaflow cat. Ours is medium loud. Not the loudest it could be but definitely not as quiet. Ours is all 2.5" though, that may be why it's louder. I wish my camera actually captured the deep tone and not just the high notes.

I've fot a Magnaflow can with ebay header and gutted cat. Other than those mods, its all stock pipe with stock resonator and it does make a big difference in sound. Loud, but not too loud; also deep and not a ricey tone.

Technically I didn't do anything illegal in this video since I didn't really go above the posted speed limit... in the parking lot... area... ish. lol.

But here's a decent example of what it sounds like when you romp on it:

Rather than start a new thread on basically the same question i figure i'd post here. If i'm in the wrong just tell me.

What muffler would give a deep throaty sound on the 7afe's. As i do see post, but not engine specific expect for rabidTRD . Anyway 7afe, header, 2 1/4 with a cat & res, I'd like something such as richee3 tone. I was looking into vibrant or the obx ws2 knock off i am not into can's or rasp.

^^ Sorry, I have a BEAMS. I think I specified in the custom exhaust thread but not this one. As far as I can tell, Magnaflow, Flowmaster 40 series, and Vibrant all seem to be well liked on Celicas.

Be sure to check here, there should be plenty of good setups. smile.gif

Thank's for the reply. I am probably going with a yonaka or obx both are knock offs of the ws2 universal they seem to be on par aslong as a cat and decent resonator are in place. I've only heard 2-3 decent sounding 7afe's one was "custom" setup with a HKS muffler other than that it's usually your ebay kits. Anyway again thanks, both you and trd's cars sound amazing.

That does sound extremely nice... It's got a deep rumble to it even when on the gas.

Guessing that's 2.5" piping. Do you have a header?

Piping is all replaced with 2.25" from the flex pipe back. Secondary cat removed.

2.25" piping. Header isn't on yet. This is with the stock manifold and manifold mounted cat. Secondary cat removed.

Come spring, I'll be putting together a down pipe myself and putting on my Tanabe Medallion G-Power JASMA header.

I'm guessing it's a Cali Emission 5sfe but it's not registered in Cali? Removing any of the 3 cats we have will fail the Cali Emissions section of the SMOG tests right?

Hey Guys,

I thought I would ask this here, rather than starting ANOTHER muffler thread tongue.gif

I have been thinking about upgrading the muffler on my 5SFE Celica, but I have been worried about getting something that sounds too hoonish or like all the drain pipes/fart-cannons out there. There isn't a huge following in my area, so it is hard to listen in person, so I am entrusting you!

Basically, I am wanting my car to sound like it should have out of the factory; like the exhaust on any decent modern hot hatch (deep, but not too loud as to draw masses of attention). I want it to sound nice and noticeable, without being obviously aftermarket (to the layman). I am planning to keep my stock tip if possible to help with this.

I am sick and tired of being shown up by my sisters tiny little stock 3 door '04 Barina SRi (I.e. Opel Corsa C Sri) when it comes to exhaust systems! tongue.gif

My question is whether a standard muffler, like those discussed here, would achieve this for me, and if there is anything in particular I should be wary of when I am shopping around? Also, for my needs is there any reason to redo the rest of the exhaust piping? I have no major plans for modifying the drivetrain in the near future, however I have a friend who could probably do the piping on the cheap for me.

Thank you,
Joshua smile.gif

I've been looking around and OBX seems to be the best for it's cheap price. My cousin has an OBX muffler on his Civic and it sounds really nice. Not loud but a perfect deep sound. But obviously a Civic and Celica is two different cars. I was just wandering if you guys can post some pics and/or vids of your universal mufflers! smile.gif

Best Universal Mufflers to me only cus I only love oval canisters:

Tanabe Hyper Medallion
Apexi WS2

Best sounding exhaust out there and is fairly priced. Unlike some other brands I could mention it won't cost you $200-300 for just the muffler only to sound like a bumblebee. You can just replace the muffler if you want it to be louder, but not obnoxious. As removing the resonator etc would make for a louder and raspier sound.
