Pepboys wants 150 to replace the fuel filter which gives me the impression it is either really hard or they are ripping me off. anyone replace one? How hard is it?

Mine was simple? Drivers side close to the fire wall (bulk head) top bolt was a little tight but it is pretty simple depending on your tec skills.

Toyota fuel filter can be a pain if you have never changed one before. Just make sure you use a line wrench on the bottom fitting and thread it back in carefully (dont wanna cross thread it). Make sure its not leaking and your good.

PB blaster helps and take your time with that bottom fitting. It is very easy to twist the soft metal of the fuel line. Just remove the air box and intake tube and you should have a clear shot at it.

![]() That should help and listen to seanb. Its really easy to mess up that bottom line. If you cross thread it, it will leak. |

Mine was a royal pain in the ass since it had the original filter from the factory. Had I not already had ordered the replacement filter I would have just cut the ends of the lines off and just installed a Nissan filter that uses rubber hoses and clamps.

line wrench or what they call flare nut wrench. If you are having difficulty you can also unbolt the bracket from the wall to get a better position at it but be careful not to damage the line. Then you have better leverage, or you can also position the wrenches like a scissor and squeeze.

Hmm, my 5s has the filter in the oem bracket near the driverside strut tower, but its got hose clamps and rubber hose on each side. Not that fuel injection hose is easy to stretch over a hose nipple, and when I replaced it I most likely just bought the same part# instead of looking it up.
I'll check it later today and see what the part # is. But yeah to change it there is a basterd of a bolt you have to undo, its difficult because you can only turn it a tiny bit at a time because of space. |

Thanks for the replys, I am about to go buy the filter. I do not have any line wrenches, can anyone tell me what size I need for this job? Any place to buy cheap tools?

Loan a tool from O'Reillys Autozone Advance ect. Most part stores will let you do it. As for the size, no idea lol.

Top banjo bolt is a 17mm, bottom line is a 14mm. I'd also suggest you get new crush washers for the banjo bolt.
