teaser pics from a custom car gathering night, click here for a pic of my car.

All shots were with my xsi (now sold) with sigma 15-30, light painting with my 430EX II. First try at light painting, need to get something better than my speedlite.

1. Skyline R32 Turbo

2. Silvia Turbo

3. Skyline R34 GT Turbo

4. 180sx Turbo

One more from motocross, This guy just landed so the bike is still moving quite a bit.
I was attempting motion blur so I was running a lot slower shutter speed than normal.

What settings do you need to adjust to take shots like this??
I'm running a low-end Fuji S800 and there are a ton of setting capabilities that I just haven't had time to tinker with. I know its no SLR - but we bought it for the vid-cam (its phenominal for taking vids of the new rug-rat).

I was running about 1/200 shutter and adjusting the aperature to match, ISO 100
I was pretty slow. About 1/360 is fairly good for panning from what I have read.
The spot I had to shoot from the background was far away so extreme motion blur
was difficult. The one above he as coming at me so it was harder than a side panning
shot. I think cars would be a little easier to pan at slower shutter speeds because the only
thing moving is the tires and background on a flat road. Check your camera for a shutter priority mode
and you should be able to adjust it down to the right setting.

The lens I shot this with is about $1500 and it has a image stabilized with a mode just for this sort of thing.
So it makes it a little easier.

Thanks Erik, I was pretty happy with the top one, all the pics except one are decent in high res.
I used photostitch, it works fairly well, I want to try some landscapes and see how they turn out.

I went out the other day and was using the 17-40 and took a couple - and Photostitch, which I also like and think does a good job, said the focal length was TOO SHORT. I couldn't believe it.

What is your setup like for these product shots? I'm impressed with them.

thanks.

its a specific spot in my dorm room where i take them
there is a 45degree wall that intersects with a vertical wall about waist level.
i set up sheets around the product and bounce the light on the 45degree wall, i forget at what power.

in the shot of the lens that i took there is brown on the right side of it from the reflection of my bed posts

i'll have to take a pic of my setup nextime

I'm sorry - an explanation is going to be required.

The roommate was at a meeting. So 1,000 yards of yarn was purchased and strung throughout his room. Tied to everything he has sitting around and the scissors were hung just about 6 inches out of reach. The only way to keep from knocking everything he owns on the floor was to crawl underneath the mess, around his bed, then climb on his bed, follow the wall and he could reach the scissors. We hid everything in the house that he could use to cut the yarn so he had to climb through our little Legends of the Hidden Temple mess.

Before this we previously filled his bedroom with balloons. From floor to ceiling. Had to wait a few months for him to stop locking his door again before this little number could be pulled.

You're my hero...seriously!

this is my gargoyle/dragon. it keeps watch over my driveway while i'm away. it was freezing today. the ice made it look surreal. olympus e-410 with a f3.5 14-42mm ED lens. i'm not particularly pleased with the price:quality ratio of this setup. the lens seems to giggle a little on the mount, so does my f4 40-150mm ED.

this is him...i think it's a him...

i really have to invest in a decent flash

this is him up close...
