QUOTE(K-ESD @ Aug 27, 2006 - 11:15 AM) well I wanted to hold off until I had it perfected before I made an official anouncement but I guess it's just too much to hide. Yes, I have the first running V6 and use it everyday. I didn't quite "finish" it as I would like to, some things are still getho looking and I have a few bugs to work out. I need to rework some of the exhaust, mainly in the header piping (also working on a model for a set of custom headers), make myself a custom strut bar, get myself some ss radiator hoses. I do have a check engine light on but the car runs fine. Once I get everything straigthen out, I will make a post with all the information needed to help make this swap. I don't have picts of my setup at this moment and honestly I wouldn't want to show it to everyone because its a MESS. Here's my setup: 04 Sienna 3MZFE & ECU -150amp Alternator -Solara power steering (sienna pump doesn't fit) -Toyota Matrix K&N intake (thats right, a Matrix intake fits) -Fidanza Flywheel -3SGTE clutch 01 Solara E153 Transmission -Alltrac rear and driver side mount, GT front mount -GT-FOUR shifter cables -MR2 turbo (non LSD) inner axles -Solara axle carrier -ST185 outter axles (with abs cause I have it) -ST185 speed sensor Others: 04 Sienna Immobilizer 04 Sienna Returnless Fuel pump and regulator 03 Echo charcoal canister (aka EVAP box) 01 Camry check fill valve sweet let me know how everything turns out after you cleaned out the bugs and how much everything cost in the end -------------------- I've learned my lesson... the best mod you can have for your car is a good alarm system

I will say within a month to be totally annoying! Also, in my mind -- these older thread should be left to die, and people who are swapping/swapped should make new threads that are not so long, and have more condensed, specific, factual info. Yes, this includes myself i know...and yes, the time will come. ~snap This post has been edited by snapshotgt: Aug 28, 2006 - 12:13 AM -------------------- Past: V6 Swapped 6G Celica, E46 BMW M3, Jeep Wrangler TJ

QUOTE(behindthesmile @ Aug 27, 2006 - 7:00 PM) sweet let me know how everything turns out after you cleaned out the bugs and how much everything cost in the end One thing I can say for sure, the V6 swap is much easier (not easy, just easier) than anyone would have expected. Wiring isn't as bad as we all thought, mechanicaly the motor almost bolts on. The only custom fab needed is the passenger side motor mount, and creative exhaust work. Annother thing I should mention is that the stock strut bar had to go (in my case). It fits but it's cleary in the way of the engine when it rocks back and forth. The V6 swap has MANY options for configuration you have, the 1MZFE, 3MZFE, 3VZFE, 5VZFE, possibly the 2GRFE all of which bolts on to either the GT tranny or the E153 Complications begin when swaping out the tranny for a E153, that was hard. The parts list grew The GT tranny works and would work ok but it has too short gearing for the V6, also sticking with GT tranny (for the GT people) will also slash cost in almost half. It's all about what you want and how much you're willing to spend. What was the hardest part of this entire swap? Gathering parts ! This swap needed alot of parts, much less if you're keeping the GT tranny. When I think about it, alot of it was not nessesary but was a good thing to have. I can see many more V6 swaps being done now that the ice is broken. I can provide crutial information for next swaps to come and so will snapshot when *sensored* does his. It will become a mainstream swap because it is the ideal swap for a daily driven Celica. edit: I promised snap not to say who was going to do his swap This post has been edited by K-ESD: Aug 28, 2006 - 5:50 AM -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

Wow, first V6 Celica is finally done. I've been pushing and pushing this swap for so long now, I can't beleive that it's finally done. I'm very happy about that, but I'm very sad that I wasn't the one to finally present it, after all the time I've put into this project. Such is life I guess. So K-ESD, what are your impressions on the driving aspect?

QUOTE(Dr_Tweak @ Aug 28, 2006 - 9:52 AM) So K-ESD, what are your impressions on the driving aspect? two words... ----> wheel spin I need bigger tires !!! (running 195/55/15's right now, good tires that came with rims for cheap) It's very easy to break traction. I have to be very careful on the throttle. but on a daily driving aspect, it's the best thing i've ever driven. The acceleration is so smooth, it feels like your getting pulled by a turbine. The Solara transmission shifts very very smoothly, like cutting through butter. It drives just like a brand new car, well after all I do have a motor with 16k kms and a trans with 60k kms. (try to get a 3SGTE localy with that many kms for $750 cnd ) Handling is not affected at all, not that I can notice. From carrying the two motors around, it feels like the 5SFE and the 3MZFE are about the same weight. When I do gun it, after I get that wheel spin under control, it pulls like crazy (if I don't break loose again). I find myself shifting through gears very fast. The torque is just always there, in 5th gear I stomp on it and it MOVES up fast, no bogging like the 5SFE. It's an amazing engine, as good as in my dreams....maybe even better also, i get better gas mileage than my 5SFE when babied. -------------------- ----------------------6GC's FIRST V6----------------------

How much of a difference with it be with the 1MZFE. 3MZFE is still a newish engine. and its hard to find (caryard anyways) I about to start buying parts for my car.. first thing is ASA AR1 wheels. 16x7.5 with 225/50/16 Bridgstone 050A.. should be enuff tire to tame a v6? hehe |

I realize this is an old thread I felt compelled to comment
Now days those 1mz's are everywhere, from my perspective it is the perfect swap. its lighter than a 3sgte, produces as much in all catagories and the biggest positive is that it should be easy to get BAR'd in cali because they are all newer than my car (1992 st184) I located an E52, I'll be working toward swapping that soon. I'm still piecing together info on what this swap requires in a 5th gen body and the main issue: what needs to change with the wiring. oh and this is proof that the MZ v6 is stout and capable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNWbZ53_CZo |

Kurt and myself have done this swap. look at the details in my thread because im in CA also and have to get the vehicle inspected. it will be much easier for you since you are installing it in a 5th gen.

yeah, a lot of these prices are way off.
Also, much of the info here has been superceded. I'm also doing the swap as well. |
