I highly doubt there will be sufficient enough rain here for the next couple of weeks. I'm gonna be ordering my bypass in the next week or so though.

Looking at where mine is, I think I would have to submerge my front end to get enough water on the filter to cause problems. It's more enclosed also with the fog light in front of it.

I got into an arguement with one of my mechanics a couple weeks ago that almost made me fire him.
He was convinced that regardless of a bypass valve the car would immediately hydrolock if it was raining hard enough or we hit a puddle. I would normally let him go on his rants but he had a kid there he was preaching to who just bought a fifth gen and seemed inspired by my plans to go ahead and put his all into his car. And he looked kinda down when Milo said a CAI was a bad idea anywhere but the track. Yeah, it may not be as safe as a SRI, but seriously the likelihood of even getting submerged that deep isnt very high. At least around here. -------------------- |

Mine was about 32"x12"x8" (guessing on the 32" because it fit perfect between my strut towers in my trunk). The pipe was wrapped in bubble wrap, the filter was in another small box and the rest was in a sealed plastic bag.
For rain to hydrolock and engine, wouldn't the rain have to almost directly be hitting the filter? I mean, it takes more than some spray or a couple drops to seize an engine doesn't it? They must have some amount of tolerance for water in the air, otherwise it would be dangerous to drive on a foggy day This post has been edited by Sinyk: May 9, 2007 - 2:33 PM -------------------- |

kinda where I went with that. he's a good mechanic with great attention to detail, and I'd rather he play it super safe than sorry.

did you guys get the same one from eautosource on ebay?
as for the bypass valve...you probably wont need it, but its better to be safe than sorry, for example when you hydrolock and you have all those problems, your gonna wish youd spent the money for one. This post has been edited by DSToyo: May 9, 2007 - 2:39 PM |

I'm still gonna be getting one. I just don't think I'm gonna need it in the next two weeks.

Ok, I snapped a couple pics of the intake I installed.
The single piece pipe. Close up of the filter provided. After it was installed. First S-shaped piece. Looking towards the fuse box. The Mass Air Flow Sensor installed on the underside. Clearance of the pipe under the fuse box. This is the picture with the missing screw on the fuse box. You can see the screw connected at the bottom, but you can clearly see the gap that is now present from the side of the car to the right side of the fuse box. It's very small and the fuse box doesn't rub on anything. In the 4th pic, you can see the other screw that attaches to the strut tower. The filter is located where the air box in the fender used to be. I had to remove most of the tire well panel to access the box to remove it. It's pretty well in the same location as the first post picture showed by 95ST_Celica except that i have a fog light in the bumper as well.
I can't take a pic of it without taking off the panels again I can't honestly say about the fittment on the ST, but the first post by 95ST_Celica showed pictures on the 1.8L engine and it looked just about the same. On the pipe, I had to cut it into two pieces and i had to take about 3 inches of pipe off the end that's in the fender. As for what was stock in the car, i had to remove everything related to the intake including the airbox for the filter, the pipe to it the pipe into the fender and the airbox in the fender that connects to. -------------------- |

No, you have to drill a hole. The stock hole is 3/4" if you want to put the grommet in as well

It's easy to drill and I think if you don't put it in, your check engine light will constantly be on.

Aside from the check engine light, are there any other problems to not putting in the MAF?
I'm supposed to be installing this thing when I get out of work but I wont be able to drill the hole for the MAF till at the earliest the weekend. -------------------- |
