This is a Information thread about the simalarites and the differences between them all. (not about the ST205 GT-4)
This is about the JDM ST202 and 4WS(ST203) series: SS-I SS-II SS-III and the Convertible. QUOTE (Celica Club UK) 1st part (JDM only) This is a code for which emissions regulations the car conforms to in Japan. Usually E. Middle part This starts with one or two characters denoting the engine series. (All SS-I SS-II SS-III celicas are a S [3S-FE or 3S-GE]) Next is the chassis code. All RWD Celicas are A and FWD Celicas are T, which is then followed by a series number. Gen1=A2, gen2=A4, gen3=A6, gen4=T16, gen5=T18, gen6=T20, gen7=T23 A further number indicates minor chassis differences. 2 (for All SS-I SS-II SS-III Celicas ) 3 (for SS-I equipped with 4WS) A final character usually blank (if none applies) or Convertible (C ) or Widebody (H) (JDM only) Last part contains 5 or 6 letters. 1) Model type, where the chassis is used for more than one model. All Celicas are B. 2) Body style. C=Coupe. L=Liftback. K=Convertible. 3) Transmission. M=5 speed floor mounted manual. P=4 speed floor mounted automatic. 4) Trim level. S=Sports, normal performance. G=Higher grade. V=Luxury sports. Z=High performance. 5) Engine code. Z=Twincam (high performance), EFI, Turbo. F=Twincam, EFI (high performance). K=Twincam, EFI (economy). *some infomation has been changed to show specific JDM info In 1994 SS-I and SS-II were released SS-I Engine ![]() 3S-FE(2.0L scissor cam. single cam gear to DOHC) 103KW @ the flywheel (187Nm @ 4400rpm) redlines at 6000rpm and guage cluster goes to 8,000rpm (no difference in power between auto and manual) SS-II Engine ![]() 3S-GE (3rd Generation) 132KW @ the flywheel (192Nm @ 4800 rpm)* *however this is the manual, the automatic only made 125KW, but the same torque. Redline is 7,00rpm max advised RPM's at 7200 RPM. Engine - 3S-FE 138BHP, 6000 redline. Suspension - MacPherson, Front strut brace standard. Brakes - Disc brakes, Single piston front, Single piston rear (as USDM GT), ABS optional (generally without) Gearbox - S54 - 1st 50kph, 2nd 90kph, 3rd 130kph, 4th 170kph, 5th off the clock. Bodykit - None. Wheels - 14" Toyota 5 spoke alloys 195/65R14 SS-II -- E-ST202-BLMVF Engine - 3S-GE 177BHP (200BHP & VVT-i after 1998), 7200 redline. Suspension - MacPherson, Front strut brace standard. Brakes - Disc brakes, Single piston front (dual after 1997) Single piston rear, Sports ABS (optional) Gearbox - S54 - 1st 60kph, 2nd 100kph, 3rd 140kph, 4th 180kph, 5th off the clock. Bodykit - Sideskirts optional Wheels - 15x7 JJ Toyota 5 spoke alloys 205/55R15 recommended size. SS-III -- E-ST202-BLMZF (Available from 1995 onwards, Superstrut optional for SS-II in 1994) Engine - 3S-GE 177BHP (200BHP & VVT-i after 1998), 7200 redline. Suspension - Super Strut Suspension, Front strut brace standard, Rear strut brace standard. Brakes - Disc brakes, Dual piston front, Single piston rear, Sports ABS Gearbox - S54 - 1st 60kph, 2nd 100kph, 3rd 140kph, 4th 180kph, 5th off the clock. LSD standard. Bodykit - Sideskirts standard (Front grille mesh, Front and rear endcaps, High WRC spoiler standard after 1998) Wheels - 15x7 JJ Toyota 5 spoke alloy 205/55R16 recommended size. -- Fog lights standard on all models Face lifted front bumper, rear spoiler & tail lights standard on all models after 1996 New projector headlights optional on all models after 1998 ABS optional, Airbags optional. Driver seat reclining adjuster removed from 1996 & 1997 models Factory CD player available from 1996 onwards Climate control standard in SS-II and SS-III models, optional in SS-I (some have manual aircon) Power windows, Power mirrors, Central locking (from both sides), Power steering all standard on all models -------------------- Mike W

Is that a definite on the SS-3's having an LSD? This has been covered before in this thread. Only JDM ST202 to have LSD is the Manual SS-III (Of all years) And possibly the 1994 SS-II with Superstrut. Basically, We've figured that if the Vin Plate lists the Trans/Axel as S54-06D then it's LSD. There is debate as to Viscous Vs Helical, but as far as I only the only factory Toyota FWD (Not TRD) LSD is Viscous. To get LSD in a Celica you need the associated parts from either SS-III Manual or an MR2 Turbo (Probably Manual only aswell) -------------------- Mike W
