Audio Receiver install, Audio Receiver install Options

Hi celicans...
I have got my celica a Alpine CDA-9807 receiver and am looking to install it myself.
Has any of you done this, are there any manuals/instructions available....i got hold of
a 94 thru 95 6th gen celica audio installation manual...would that work....
I have an 8 speaker system.

I could walk you through the whole installation process, man....i just did this about 2 months ago, and i have the 8 speaker setup too. Did you get a wiring harness yet? In order to get a signal to all 8 speakers without making a total mess with aftermarket amps, you need to buy the Toyota Amplifier Integration Harness, made by Metra...the part # is 70-8112. Just search for it online and order it, this way you can wire the Metra harness into the aftermarket stereo leads, then plug it into the plug that went into your old stereo. If you need to know how to get the old stereo out, and take apart your dash, go to installdr.com for instructions...just lookj up the 6g celica and youre set to go. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, id be glad to make this easier on you than it was for me.

thank you dude, ur the person i was looking for...i will be getting my audio receiver this friday, n will fix it over the weekend..as u suggested i will get the wiring harness..i will mesg you over the weekend, once i get all the stuff ready....

I also has the 8 speaker setup, but my with a CD/Cassette Combos. Did this Toyota Amplifier Integration Harness (Metra#70-8112) fit my car too? Also,can any one tell me what is the size of all 8 speakers of the 6th celica GT? THANK YOU!

celica6th, im pretty sure you have the same stereo unit i had- its a double din sized CD/tape/radio combo (without the pocket beneath the headunit)with one main plug on the back of the unit for the speaker leads, and 2 other plugs on the back left side for the antenna signal and power antenna signal. This should be the same unit you have...if it is, then the Metra plug will work perfectly.

The speaker sizes in the 8 speaker stereo setup are 1" tweeter, 4" midrange(somebody correct me if im wrong on that one...), and 8" subs in the front door.

Yeah, the harness says its for a Lexus i think, or maybe even a Toyota Avalon or something....but trust me, this is the right part. Heres where i bought mine- Metra Amplifier Integration Harness Its by far the cheapest price i could find it for anywhere, so try these guys....they had great service and delivery time.

Thanx for your help. As you said i got the Metra Amplifier Integration Harness and while working on the radio install i had 2 problems.
Background: I have a Apline CDA9708 head unit. I pulled out the old unit and it had two wires, one the black ground, the other a slot that goes into the amp harness. I plugged in the metra harness to the one comming from the amp and the black wire to the ground in the head unit. Now i am faced with a problem.

Problem 1: The Audio head has 3 pairs(white/red) of rounded slots and the metra harness has 2 pairs(pair 1:white/black, pair 2:voilet/green) pins...how do i match the Metra with the head unit.

Problem 2: After i mounted the brackets onto the radio and when i place the radio in the slot. While i try to put back the dash panel, it can almost fit back in, but not completely...a small part of the bracket holds the dash from fitting in perfectly. The width of the new head unit is a little larger than the old head unit.

kingpreetham....i just tried searching for your stereo and i think you might have gotten the numbers mixed up...

Heres a tip, first off which should make things a little easier-

Take your new alpine headunit and wire up the wiring harness to it on your workbench or something, then once everything is wired together and youve identified all your leads you can plug it right in your car to that plug that used to go into your factory stereo. This will make the wiring process alot easier for you.

Now to answer the first question-

1.) The rounded slots you were talking about are RCA jacks...if you read the Alpine manual there should be(as far as i know) RCA jack inputs and outputs for things labeled "subwoofer out", "front", "back", "CD changer"...etc....look for those and you might see a red and white (or right and left) set of RCA jacks for the front and back audio inputs. If you see them, thats what the 4 RCA plugs of the wiring harness go into. If not, then you might have to take off the RCA plug on the end of the wire and wire it to the proper front or left input on the stereo. Just be sure to identify every wire on the wiring harness to its correspondng wire on the back of the stereo by using the manual that came with your new headunit. Just take your time and you'll get it.

Question 2-

2.) There should have been a metal mounting bracket that slides around the stereo....you dont need it to put your stereo in. And theres a set of metal tabs on the sides of the stereo where that metal bracket clicks onto to secure it......you dont need them either. That is what gets in teh way of the dash, so just unscrew the metal tabs off the sides of the stereo and you maight have to remove the faceplate trim like i had to. Then your dash should go right back into place with nothng in the way.

Hmm....its kinda hard to guess what the problem is if i cant actually see it in person. I would go to the manual that came with your Alpine and look under a troubleshooting section....I know my Panasonic manual says that if you dont get sound to check your wiring, the ground....just basically double checking your work to make sure that you got it right.

So thats what i'd do if i were you- just double check all the wiring, make sure its all joined tightly and make sure your ground cable is secure. Im not quite sure what you did about grouding the stereo but you shouldnt have any problems with having to ground stuff to the car cuz theres a ground wire in the wiring harness itself. Also, im assuming that your reason for replacing your stereo had nothing to do with the fact that you blew your factory amps, right?? Cuz you need them to power the speakers, thus the sets of RCA jacks....they send signals to your stock amps.

.....And of course check all the stupid little things that you might not have thought of like the volume....source...mute, possibly??

Hey, one last question, how did u insert a pocket below the head unit, which pocket did u get...

Stack the stereo overtop of the pocket and then just take the brackets off of the side of the stock double din unit and it should screw right onto the sides of the stereo/pocket unit just like it did the stock stereo. You even use the screws from the old stereo...just slap that sucker together and bolt it all in the way the other stereo was mounted and there you have it. Glad to hear it all works
