batman..question 4 u...the lil spacer/doughnuts that is included in the 7th gen twm, on the right side under the new lever, what are they for??/do i have to worry about them?

You need the spacers to lift the assembly so the shift linakage dosnt bend or hit. I learned this the hard way, by testing and testing. Also i did the evo one which was a bit more work. Also you will need to cut some plastic tabs on the shift linkage to make it shift smother.

there are stock spacers in your car now. I took those out and replaced them with the new ones. Those are nessessary. I did cut the plastic piece that Doug is talking about a day later, I felt no difference cut/uncut, there was no rubbing at all - I just wanted to be safe.

Batman, did the ebay kit (7th gen) come with all of the parts you need specified in those instructions?

no, it didn't. So what you do is...
for the clip, either use the old one or buy a clip at a hardware store that looks like this

one will probably cost about $ .25

for the cup remover, just use a pair of pliers wink.gif just don't squeeze the plastic cup too hard and crush it. I had no problem getting the cups off and then back on the new shifter.

for the plastic tabs, that might have just been mine, cause i did the evo lancer one. The tabs that sit under the shift linkage, in the housing, right after the clips. The hold the linkage up a lil bit so it bends, but the 7th gen could be dif. I know that mine was sitting to low an bending.

Which made it hard to shift. like it was workout putting it into gears.. an i drove liekt hat for 3 weeks.. rolleyes.gif

it is the white plastic piece that is under the right cable. Some people needed to cut it, I really didn't need to at all. I cut it just in case it was/would rub the cable, I felt no difference after I cut it.

if you have any questions, post them up wink.gif

also, make sure you replace your stock rubber spacers with the purple ones provided, I think that is the reason I do not rub (the new ones make the assembly sit higher).

no, if you follow the TWM pdf instructions I posted, it is kinda step no. 7. There are 4 bolts that hold the assembly to the car chasis. The bolts are 14mm I think and the spacers are just big washers that go in between the big plastic assembly and the car. After you remove the bolts and put in the new shifter, before you put the 4 bolts back in put the new round purple metal spacers in the place of the smaller rubber ones that are already there (between the assembly and the car chasis)

Jaws, don't worry, it is easy. Most people do this in less than an hour. I believe in you, you can do it.

Nope I had to cut mine because it was like a workout shifting mine too.

Batman, yea I took the rubber spacers out and it didn't make a difference still had to cut the plastic piece.

Im thinking about taking that TWM shortshifter install guide and basically copy it over for a new how to, and just label it as how to "install TWM shortshifter/ generic 7th Gen shortshifter" And then add an entry in the parts database for a Generic 7th Gen shortshifter since this works so well. I got mine last week and am doing it right after I finish getting my compustar alarm hooked up.
