I want to get my 94 Hatchback a targa top, but once again, its hard as hell to find some parts for our cars so I'm asking if anyone knows who can customize one and the price range.

this is something i will eventually do to my coupe... before someone else posts: 'it cant be done and if so it'll cost a fortune to do because it just does!', i'll go ahead and say that it can be done. if someone can install a sunroof on a car that didnt come with one, for well under $600, then you can definately do this. it has to be professionally done to avoid leaks and things, and the only problem comes with reinforcement. as with any car with targa tops, the supra with targa is reinforced because the roof of our cars helps hold the thing together. the best thing to do, and what i would do, is call a shop that specializes in sunroofs and talk to them. goodluck and keep us updated.

hate to be the first person who says it, but..its gonna cost an a$$ load of $$$. When i worked at my buddy's tuner shop we did a car for Raceworld.ca..it was a 97 Prelude and we decided to go with a targa top on it. It cost $4000 from a body shop to reinforce the roof, make the mount, cut it, make it weather proof, paint it all so it looks stock..etc..and it didnt come out perfect. The car looks sick with it, it looks sick without the top on, with the top on..but..when you drive it around 100km/h or 60MPH, it whistels horribly. It also leaks a little bit, they had to revamp the design and make it have a kind of gutter like on a house's roof to match up and collect the water.

I believe it would look nice in out celica since the body style is very similar to the MKIV Supra. The hardest part is reinforcing it

The hardest part is reinforcing it roll cage maybe?? some day years from now when the celica is old and i have a couple other cars i'm going to cage the car and do this. like said, the hardest part is the reinforcing and designing the weather seal system, but look at how the targa tops on supras and corvettes work for ideas. -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

or, crazy idea, some1 could use a vert, and custom sheetmetal it to make it a taga top, i know its crazy, but all you would have to do with a hatchback, is run some tube along the b pillar and the the roof and tie it in to the floor at both ends, and them a custom panel to cover the bar and make it look clean, if i were rich, and already did a 2jz swap and rwd conversion this would be next on the list, lol

I believe neverstop was attempting this awile back. You might want to ask him. Rienforcing the
bottom should not be too difficult since your not doing a complete roof chop. Take a torch to a junkyard and start cutting. This post has been edited by madmods: Mar 6, 2006 - 2:29 AM |

i've already looked into it, over the summer I will get it done. $4000 for a custom made and installed kit, including painting and reenforcing of the frame. I've only found 1 person to do it here in florida.

i always wanted a t top, thought it would look nice with some lambo doors, yea a roll cage is probably a must to hold the car from twisting, other than that it would have to be crazy custom to put the top back on

So Im trying to decide if I should just invest in an SRT-4 and keep the celi. -------------------- To live, is to suffer

SRT4's are nice cars. Cheap interior, but they are fast. Way more potential than a Celica. Especially for the money.
But putting money into a targa-top for a 6GC would be such a waste. It's your money. -------------------- |

Since my friends go driving in there turbo eclipse, R32, and a a jetta, it sucks having to stay so far behind :-( QUOTE(Akimbo @ Mar 6, 2006 - 11:56 PM) SRT4's are nice cars. It's your money. not really a waste of money, think of it as a hobby. An expensive hobby, and imagin if you could have something that nobody else in the world has. And yes the SRT-4's are fast, not even $3000 worth of mods and you'll take almost anything from a roll. And its 4 doors which helps alot, if you've ever hung out with more than 1 girl at a time, u know how embarassing it is to have them crawl in the back :-0 QUOTE(nightryder @ Mar 7, 2006 - 12:05 AM) You're crazy and i support you 100% ! Keep us posted, I'm kinda excited. ya I think it will look hot, like a mini supra, haha but like I said, it should be done/completed over the summer. So no real updates until then. The SRT-4 will probably be my daily driver since I wanna keep my celi with low miles, it will be my lets go cruise around with the miss's car. -------------------- To live, is to suffer
