I have been getting a lot a private messages recently regarding this swap. The real answer to this question was, I was stupid and naive back then.

I thought that could do anything that I wanted, and if the MR2 guys were doing it, so could I. And I was right. I did it....

I cannot tell you what to do, I cannot advice you what to do. Your car, you money, your swap.

However how old of an engine do you want in your car? 20 year old technology, or 10 year old tech. Do you want to fiddle with boost and or rotating parts. Or have a lasting engine, that does not require any service than oil change. Its a question only you can answer.

I could have done many swaps, I used 2GR, because I wanted something reliable. Parts available in the USA, and newer motor, something that if an engine broke, I could find anything readily cheap on Ebay.

I did the swap in a way that was reproducible easy, with the least amount of modifications.

-I have power steering
-I have A/c capabilities

Yes, I did the whole thing myself in my car. I really dont have a clue what the other white celica guy did to his swap. Except he used a six speed transmission. His information is non existent.

A few questions to answer:

1. How low do you want your oil pan to be? I did not raise the engine, I did not Lower the engine. I left it at the level that the E153 transmission sits. I rather have my oil pan sit high, and not have to modify the cross member at all, Plus im using a high capacity oil pain that is bigger.

2. What mount did I use? The Rav4 Engine mount made it easier to install.. (with a custom bracket)

3. What pump did I use? Still using the celica fuel pump with no problem.

4. Are you going to supercharge it? I can barely close the hood, a supercharger wont fit....

If you look at my swap thread, I went the easiest way to replicate the swap, anything else would be more difficult, with this swap.

1. Cut a notch in the frame
2. Use and adapter to raise the Rav4 mount
3. Modify the Rav4 mount
4. Modify the steering rack brackets.
5. Custom power steering hose
6. Hood raise blocks...

these steps are nothing complicated, and easy to make, compared to a custom cross member, and custom transmission mounts, and a lower oil pain....

Transmission?

E153. For manual.

For auto, use the transmission that is for the ECU you already have, and custom axles. (dont know which to use)

Not trying to write up a swap, but if you are ever tempted to ask questions about the 2Gr read this first.

I AM NOT SELLING THIS SWAP, TRYING TO CONVINCE THIS OVER OTHER SWAPS. I JUST COULD CARE LESS ABOUT OTHER ENGINES. BUT THATS MY OPINION, AND YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY.

If you want to do the swap I may help, but case by case basis. LOL, I dont charge and I have a life.

FAQ (section)

2. The Beams engine is easier to swap---------------------------> Dont care
3. Other V6 are cheaper---------------------------> Dont care
4. The bubble era in Japan---------------------------> Dont care
5. Too expensive--------------------------------------------> Dont care
6. The 3sgte engine produces a lot of more power---------------------------> Dont care

You tell 'em!

I love the irritated tone of this whole post, despite the fact that it's so anti-'Berto, I can totally picture him saying this in person.

Bro, you did it because you wanted to. And now the resulting car is a monument to your abilities as a fabricator and car builder. I personally admire the custom work involved, and can appreciate that its often about the journey as much as the end result

LOL,

just to make sure I was not that really irritated. And the private messages I got did not irritate me either.

What irritated during typing the post me was the thought of all the naysayers, and Public Defenders (of all the other swaps to include Diesel cummings, and LS1 and etc, available for the Celica that are cheaper, better, sleeker, more colorful, falvorful, race track oriented) that this post was going to bring, and did not want a discussion about it, because it takes away from the help im trying to give before I depart the world of TUNERS....

This was mostly a discussion over why the 2GR was what I chose, and why I did the way I did it. And not to compare over other engines, benefits or no benefits.

I dont login much, and figured this will help the true bona fide 6GC swap seekers, that truly want to be blessed by a wonderful engine.

I will probably post the wiring diagram very soon....

*Thumbs up to the wiring diagram*

I am very serious about doing this swap. Agree with all of your points njc.

I am not a mechanic by trade and am in sales. That being said I have worked in the automotive industry for the last 10 years from Car Rental @ Enterprise & Hertz to OEMs such as General Motors and now am working with Belron Canada on their glass and collision division.

Though I am not mechanically inclined I get the points you are trying to make and couldn't agree with them more as I mentioned in my other posts. I come to these forums for research and knowledge. Haters always going to hate and individuals such as yourself inspire me to pursue this swap. I did all the reading about 3SGTE, 3SGE, BEAMS, and ultimately the one thing that resonated true with all of them is:

-Old Tech
-No Parts availability down the line
-More Maintenance especially if you go down the turbo route.

I'm restoring my 99 convertible to pass down to my 4 month old daughter once she turns 16. Hell I even got a custom license plate for her lol.

On my list of to-do's as it currently stands is:

-Projector's (Thanks Brian)
-Projector Accents (Thanks Brian)
-Clear Side Markers (Thanks Brian)
-Seat covers (Thanks Vincent)
-Curren Tails (Thanks Vincent)
-Clear Sidemarkers (Thanks E-bay) lol
-full LED Swap (Thanks SuperbrightLeds as Smaay has gone MIA)
-Tannabe coilovers (To be purchased and pending)
-Either 16" or 17" rims (TBD)
-Full Audio upgrade (All speakers, Double DIN deck) (TBD)
-Sound Deadening in Key Areas
-Aftermarket HUD (Still Researching)
-Back up Camera
-Rust Restoration on the doors (minor)
-Avery Dennison Roaring Thunder Wrap followed by a ceramic coating.

And the Granddaddy of them all

-2GR Swap

Bought the car for $6K USD and with shipping and transportation I am sitting at about $8K USD. Keep in mind i'm in Canada so I pay a 30% premium on everything sadly due to exchange rate.

All in all the total budget for my build is around $30K including the cost of the vehicle.

I am about 25% off the way through as it comes to purchasing the parts. Finding labour in Canada at a reasonable rate that can do a good job is so tough frown.gif

But I'll keep on trucking.

I just realized that this turned into a project thread half way through. lol

I guess in summation. I couldn't agree with you more on "My car, my swap, my money" followed by "I don't care, I know its a lot of money but when your passionate about something money doesn't matter."

*mic drop*

I'm looking to do a 2gr swap myself in the near future. Ive got a 96 ST, would that make it any more difficult than it already was? Also about how much would it cost? Ive got a U Pull It right nearby that I can grab full engines from for 600 biggrin.gif
