You remember the part of my un-packaging video where I open the coils and say: "This says ST205, but I have an ST204! Rut-roh! I wonder if this will work?"
Yeah it DOES NOT WORK! They DO NOT FIT, can't pass GO, do NOT collect $200, go directly to JAIL. They sent me the wrong coils. They can't get me the correct coils for 3 - 4 weeks, because they're special order. And I really wanted to take this car to Toyota Fest. -------------------- 1999 - Toyota Celica GT Vert Black 1999 - Toyota Celica GT Vert Super White |

Time to get to detailing, painting calipers, pulling the molding off the bottom and re-dying the plastic black, treating the top, pulling the seats and carpet for a deep clean, adding some strips of butyl sound dampener to the doors and floor pan, etc and so on. Idle hands are the devils playground!

I wish I could say that having the wrong coilovers was my only issue that day. But there were a few other hiccups.
Let's go back a month earlier... My car was starting to feel "not right" while I was driving it. It felt as if the front end was not "attached" to the wheels and the car was going to float away. I was told that my suspension was going bad, by some car friends, and that is when I decided to get coilovers. The car had also started making a "popping" sound in the drivers side rear wheel area, and I thought it was best not to drive the car until I could fix these things. So the car sat... for a month. So when it came time to move the car into the garage on coil-over day, the drivers side rear wheel was completely seized and would NOT move. In fact it made a terrible metal grinding sound when I tried to move it. (It was not just rust on the rotors.) It was the E Break. I had been having trouble with the E Brake staying engaged even after I had released the lever. I had already purchased all the parts to replace the it several months earlier, knowing that I would get to that project eventually. E-brake Parts So in the pouring rain we took apart the E Brake, just so we could get the car into the garage. By then we're both soaking wet! My friend brought over an impact gun, and I wanted to try it! Oooh, the POWER! I got a few tires off in no time, it was great! Then disaster struck. I have lug locks, and I didn't have it lined up properly, and I shredded the lock key and the lug. Oops! We spent hours, and hours, and more hours trying to get this thing off. We decided to move on and removed 3 of the 4 struts. This is when I realize I have the wrong BC coils. So, after roughly 10 hours of work on the car, we decided to call it a day. It wasn't until a day later, that boyfriend managed to get the locking lug completely off. The stud is broken, but we've punched that out and have plans to get a new one. Dad and Bae At the moment all 4 old struts are out. E-Brake is in pieces. And there's lot of work to do. (I do like your "to do" list suggestions Bitter, hopefully I can get some of those done.) I've also made some other purchases. GT-4 end links (Thank you Chee La!) 3pt TRD strut bar (Thank you Jonathan) I'm forever grateful to the 6gc community for all of their help along the way. I've made several FB posts and gotten lots of assistance in the 6gc FB group. Special shout out to Chee La, AJ, & Ted, for answering billions of my questions. To Dillion, for bringing over all your tools and knowledge. To Jake, my boyfriend, for supporting my crazy love of this car. And to Jonathan for the strut bar. You all have been so amazing to me, and I know this is just the beginning, but I couldn't do this without you. Over the weekend I installed the front end links.
We had to cut out the old ones, because rust, or maybe because of my inexperience. But I'm happy to be making progress while waiting on the new coils to arrive! I also found a rust hole in my drivers side rear wheel well. So I need to figure out how I'm going to fix that. I'm guessing the best solution is to find someone to cut it out and replace the rust spot with new material. ouch! sounds rough but it's always good to get dirty so your car can stay clean. . All that stuff needs to be done so doing it at once is already a smart idea and saves you time. Tackle it slowly and don't rush. Good luck! we're always here to help.

This last weekend I deep cleaned my trunk. Checked the spare tire, vacuumed the carpet, and re-installed the sub.
All Clean! When I first got this car in 2007, the first thing I did was install the stereo system. This setup was originally installed in the Red '95 Celica that I previously owned that had been totaled, so I just moved everything over from my old car to my new car. Having quality audio is a mandatory part of the driving experience, in my opinion, and I absolutely hate not having "boom boom." So here's my set-up! A Red Top battery to power the sub & amp. I'm running a 10" JL W7, with a custom made slotted box, and a JL 500/1 amp. Ha ha! So you can kinda see that there is tape residue on the amp, because it was attached to the box using duck tape for the longest time, but it kept vibrating off. So I've since screwed it into the box. I think the cable is 0 or 1 gauge (but don't hold me to it), with fuses at the battery and in the trunk. I bought all this stuff back in 2002-ish, for the Red Celica, and I'd say it was well worth the money. It still sounds great today! And amazingly enough the sub still leaves a little bit of room in the trunk, for other things... like the oil & funnel that I must have on hand at all times. I had a new Pioneer headhunt installed a few years ago that has bluetooth & hands free calling, which is AMAZING! And I love it! Shout out to Xtreme Vehicle Designs in Noblesville, IN for hooking me up with that. I'd like to replace the stock door speakers at some point because there getting old. And sometimes when it rains, they make crackling & popping sounds. But alas, that will have to wait for now. I really like my Polk Audio component set I put into the Firebird's door panels, nice and clear with balanced sound. Lots of options out there though depending on budget and the type of sound you're looking for.

My 3 point TRD strut bar has been powder coated! And I LOVE it! Shout out to ProKote Indy! They did an amazing job!
They were able to save the TRD label, so I just re-attached it with 3M tape! I would like to have a few other bits powder coated, but I'm not sure what pieces to do. Any recommendations? They've gotta be all metal, and easily removable. I LOVE it! Of course purple is my favourite colour, so I may or may not be biased. That and I like glittery shimmery things. Hmm... You could do the exhaust heat shield for sure and the valve cover, perhaps the intake manifold and throttle body though those aren't as easy. You should totally find some purple silicone vacuum hoses and radiator hoses now too. PURPLE ALL THE THINGS.

You wanted moar purple, you get MOAR PURPLE!
Heat shield transformation thread. GO! So, here I'm soaking my heat shield in a 50/50 vinegar/water solution to remove rust. I also threw in a bunch of bolts, because everything was rusty. After several days of soaking, the bolts were rust free. I used a wire wheel & wire brush attachment on my electric drill to finish removing rust from the rest of the heat shield. I didn't have a container big enough to soak the entire thing, and this was a much faster technique. I bought some purple VHT high heat paint off of Amazon. Primer, color, and clear gloss. Primer coat! Purple coat! GLOSSY PURPLE! Finished Product! This is from my instagram account: amreynolds17 - Follow me if you'd like, but I must warn you now, I also post photos of my cat. Me, putting up my newly purple & rust free heat shield. Sure, it’s only a view my mechanic can appreciate, but I hope it makes them smile. I think it turned out pretty great! I'm happy with it, even though most people won't be able to see it. I finally received the correct coils and have installed them! It feels like a huge accomplishment to have all for tires on the ground, esp. after having the car on jack stands for the last 2 months. When I lowered the car though, I had a flat tire, so I have not yet measured and leveled out the ride height. Tonight, I hope to air up all the tires, so I can move forward with that. The car seems to be sitting really low right now! Especially compared to the stock height that I'm used to. (Yes, the car is dirty, don't judge me!)
Car started up nicely! Yay! Kinda surprised, after it sat for so long. I did keep it hooked up to the trickle charger, so I'm sure that helped. Sidenote: I figured out why my rear window de-fogger stopped working. (It stopped working YEARS ago, BTW!) HA! Before I could commit to lowered life, I needed to address my driveway situation. I have rolled curbs & the driveway slopes down a steep hill. So even with the Celica at factory height, I have to cut in at an angle to avoid scraping. There are permanent scuffs in the pavement from cars scraping in this driveway over the years. So I invested in a Bridjit curb ramp! And WOW what a difference it makes! I don't know why I didn't buy this years ago! Bridjit.com if anyone's interested, I highly recommend them. Now I won't have to worry about the lowered car scraping! Yay! In Purple News: I wasn't a fan of how the purple bolts turned out. So I decided to make them blue instead. That's better! I think it really brings out the blue glitter flakes in the strut bar! <3 So much progress! It's exciting. I can't wait to drive this car again! I really miss driving this Celica, which may sound silly... seeing as I daily a different Celica (that's essentially the same), but both cars have different personalities, and quirks, and I can't wait to feel how things have changed with the suspension upgrades! -------------------- 1999 - Toyota Celica GT Vert Black 1999 - Toyota Celica GT Vert Super White |

one of my classmates in my Toyota 2 year program class, just put purple underglows on his 2003 wrx wagon on the fronts and sides, and it looks quite cool ill say. much better than the green colored ones on the first fast and furious of the brian's eclipse.

I have not been good about updating my thread lately. Oops! Because Life has been Happening. So, let me get you all up to speed.... here's what's new with NETS TOY!
I painted my lugs blue, BUT those got ruined when I got new tires (because of the impact gun that was used at the tire place). Oh well, it's all good. SO. MUCH. DIRTY! OH YEAH, I got new tires, that's exciting!!! I settled on Continental Control Contact's. I've also got some negative camber on my rear wheels, so I purchased some camber bolts, but haven't had a chance to put those on yet. But hopefully I can get everything straightened out, so she will sit with the proper factory alignment. *Fingers Crossed* Question for you all: Should I put camber bolts all around on all 4 sides, or only in the rear where the camber is out? Does it even matter? I bought 4 bolts, but was thinking of putting all 4 in the rear to make sure it will definitely straighten out at my next alignment. ALL THE NEGATIVE CAMBER. A new Celica friend of mine, fixed my rear defogger, which has made my winter driving experience a billion times better!!! Thank you John! John & I pulled a few seat belt receiver's from a '94 in a junk yard, and found out that it won't fit on my '99 because APPARENTLY they changed the seat belt design. I'm told it was after the face lift. So the 94-95 seatbelts will be different from 96-99 seat belts. Have you all found this to be true? My seatbelt light is ON, and John helped me track down that issue. So, as soon as I find a belt buckle from a 96-99, that issue should be fixed. It's Winter! Yay! She is a great daily, and she's a BOSS in the snow! ALL ICED OUT! There were a few times I really shouldn't have gone out driving in the ice & snow! Legit sketchy driving experiences. But I survived, and I didn't crash or slide off the road like literally everyone else was doing, so that was good! THE SQUAD! THIS CAR IS A TROOPER! January was a really difficult month for me, and retail therapy is a good solution IMO, so I purchased some wheels that I've had my eye on for 2 years now! They're Konig Illusion wheels in blue! They're so pretty and I'm in love. They're 215/40ZR17 W, 17x7 +40 offset. Wheels & Tires are COMPLICATED AF! SO. MANY. NUMBERS! But I've been asking lots of questions and watching a lot of YouTube videos on the topic. I just hope these fit, and I hope they're a nice ride. This will be my first experience with low profile tires. I've been told to avoid pot holes & to actually slow down for rail road tracks! (Right now, I just brace myself and go over RR tracks full steam ahead! LOL) But I'm told I will REALLY feel it with these tires, and I don't want to bend the new wheels either! I hope it will still be a comfortable daily, because I drive A LOT! IS IT SPRING YET?! Cause I can't WAIT to put these bad boy's on! Oh... AND... she rolled over 265,000 miles today! AMAZING! I love this car so very much! This post has been edited by NetsToy: Feb 8, 2019 - 9:40 AM -------------------- 1999 - Toyota Celica GT Vert Black 1999 - Toyota Celica GT Vert Super White |

You’ll have to ask Chris at the Midwest Meet about how he found out 96+ seatbelts won’t click into 94-95 latches. For your wheels, you’ll probably want spacers. 17x7 +40 will fit but will be near stock fitment. My Caldina wheels are 17x7 +45 (so 5mm more sunk in than your Konigs) and while they fit, they don’t look good at that offset. I’m running 15mm spacers to make the wheels effectively +30 and front fitment is okay, but rear should really have a 20-25 mm spacer for better fitment. I’m not after stance or flush fitment so I’ve left it, but you’ll see what I mean when you get the wheels mounted. Just a little bit more flush will make the car look a lot more aggressive. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. You got the brakes, you got the coilovers, now you got the wheels. next logical step is an engine swap!

John has taught me so much! The guy really knows his stuff. And yes, he did mention that he used to be involved in the 6gc world. What kind of spacers do you recommend? From my research, it seems like I should go with hub centric bolt on spacers. I have not yet looked into brand and quality yet. She'll need spacers for that hella flush fitment. 10mm front and 15mm rear. Annette, where'd you get the camber bolts from? I'm confused. Shouldn't the front and back spacers be the same?! To get the factory flush fitment? My fenders are not rolled or anything. I got Moog camber bolts from Rock Auto - the website said they were "performance" parts. And I know, I know, Ted said it was a waste of money, but I wanted to get real camber bolts so that I can hopefully understand how they work, by having the actual part, and putting it on myself. That's how you learn right?! CAMBER BOLTS You got the brakes, you got the coilovers, now you got the wheels. next logical step is an engine swap! Uh huh. Baby steps. Baby steps. And somehow you've convinced me that this may eventually be a good idea. Repetition and persistence work! Who knew!? Man, I miss my car.... Stalking project threads doesn't help either. I'm sad I never got to see your Celica. Is there a build thread for it? From my research, it seems like I should go with hub centric bolt on spacers. I have not yet looked into brand and quality yet. I personally just have 15mm Ichiba slip-on hubcentric spacers with extended studs, but I wouldn't go any bigger than 15mm slip-on spacers. Link to the spacers I have Based on this, a 15mm spacer would put you about where you need to be. Ideal Offset in Relation to Wheel Width (standard ride height): Width - Offset 7.0"-----30mm with 15mm spacer (effectively 15mm) * 7.5"-----31mm with 10mm spacer (effectively 21mm) * 8.0"-----33mm with 05mm spacer (effectively 28mm) * 8.5"-----35mm 9.0"-----42mm (probably too wide no matter what offset) This will make the rim almost flush with the side of the body. These offsets and offset/spacer combos will prevent the "sucked in look" that the factory wheels have. Ideal Offset in Relation to Wheel Width (lower ride height): Width - Offset 7.0"-----36mm with 10mm spacer (effectively 26mm) * 7.5"-----33mm 8.0"-----40mm 8.5"-----46mm * 9.0"-----53mm (probably too wide no matter what offset) The rim will sit just behind the fender. In order for the rims to tuck into the fender well on lowered cars the the rim must sit back into the wheel well by 11mm compared to the standard ride height offset recommendations. * Clearance issues prevent the use of most rims with offsets lower than 30mm. The spacer will actually lower the offset and at the same time move the rim away from the offending components. * 8.5" rims may or may not fit on lowered cars. Offsets shown are positive. Offset is measured from the wheels center line to the mounting surface. Source Ideally getting wheels that fit without spacers is best but we can't all get that lucky. Per Alex's comment, we need a different offset in the rear to get flush fitment. For instance, my current fitment is 17x7 +30 which is close to flush but still slightly sunk up front, and noticeably sunk in the rear. I'd need another 5mm up front and another 10mm in the rear to have better fitment. This is the best picture I have to show how the rear looks more sunk than the front because of the identical offset. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates.
