you know, this is one part of cars I really don't understand. Do the coils and ignitions and such just provided a stronger spark? I really don't see where that would be needed unless you were boosting like crazy or something.

the blaster coils are supost to put out a higher voltage which means a higher spark... how much performance you get out of it... probably minimal, but a whole ignition system is supost to make a good bit of difference, and it better for its cost!

If your uprating the coil or ignition system to MSD or Crane, then to get best results you'll need to consider uprating your plugs and wires.
I'm currently looking at the Crane Cams HI-6S module with LX91 coil plus I'll need the Electronic Trigger Adapter (recommended for obdII cars) ...BUT then I have Denso iridium plugs and Magnecor KV85 wires already. |

when you have a bigger spark the gas will burn cleaner resulting in more HP. you wont notice a difference unless you have also altered other parts of the car and your stock ignition cant keep up. |

Heheh.... not always. Increased spark does burn fuel better, but will also increase residual heat in the combustion chamber, which can lead to detonation. Also, with such low compression and flow/intake ability, most 5SFE/7AFE motors will see ZERO gains from a fancy ignition system. I don't know how many times this has been said really, but ignition upgrades are not and should not be conisdered a performance upgrade especially on mildy tuned n/a motors. It will make noticeable differences, say if you're running carbs, or have a very built all-motor set-up, or running a turbo... but for the USDM 6th gen celicas... The only difference you'll feel, is if your original equipment is old and when replaced with new stuff... performs slighty better, however, ignition systems don't INCREASE HP... they just free up slightly what's already there... like new stock equipment. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... The coil takes yours 12 Volts and makes like 30,000 Volts. Thats how they get the electricity to arc across the spark plug and it is what makes time travel possible... that and a flux capacitor... I could get into the math if you would like ![]() -------------------- -Mike

what he said, but the blaster coils take the 12 volts and make it 45,000...

like its been said, oem ignition system on our cars and any car are sufficient for small upgrades. the ignition system will take as much juice as it needs, then when that is straining for power, an upgrade to the system would be needed.

I would upgrade plugs and wires first.
Those alone will make your car more responsive and probably give you a better fuel consumption...that's what I noticed. Only consider an ignition upgrade if your going to boost (turbo/SC). |

it doesn't make a bigger spark with upgraded ignition. If you have a stock engnie, you will get absolutely NO gains from upgrading the ignition, though the car may go back to stock. here, http://naca.larc.nasa.gov/reports/1925/nac...-report-187.pdf -------------------- ![]() |
